Aware that Lily wasn't going to talk to her any time soon, Ellie pulled her chair back and got up from the dinning table.

That fifteen minutes at the table having  breakfast with everyone was one of the awkward moments of her life and she could tell Mrs. Asenso could sense it. She'd asked questions if everything was alright, and they lied to her.

It was such a relief to leave the table when her plate was empty. The silence was unnerving.

"You all need to get ready. We'll be leaving at 9am." Mrs. Asenso announced, glancing at everyone.

Ellie nodded with a smile. She pushed her chair under the table and was turning to leave when her phone rang in the back pocket of her blue cotton shorts. She pulled out the device and flashed a smile when they all turned to look at her.

Staring at the caller ID, her brows furrowed. Why was her mother's secretary calling her?

Answering the call, Ellie placed the phone against her left ear, "Good Morning, Tina."

"Good Morning, Ellie. You're good?" Tina's soft voice answered, she had the voice of a ten-year-old, Ellie thought.

"I'm fine," Ellie smiled and moved away from the table, "What of you? Is everything okay?"

The was a short silence, followed by a sigh before she answered, "No. Everything is not okay."

Frowning, Ellie waited for her explanation.

"It's your mother. She's at the hospital."

"What?" Ellie almost yelled, "What happened to her? Is she-"

"Don't worry. I don't think it's very serious. She hasn't been feeling so well lately and she told me not to tell you, but I thought you should know. Now that she's been admitted at the hospital." Tina said with a sigh.

"What's wrong with her?" Ellie demanded.

"She passed out not too long ago in the office. I don't know what's wrong with her yet."

Ellie's heart thumped furiously as she clutched the phone, "Which hospital?"

"St. Luke." Tina replied, "You're coming?"

"Of course."

"But- I thought you're in school. Samantha said you'll be writing exams soon."

Ellie rolled her eyes. "That's next week, Tina." She sighed. "I'll be there soon."

"Take care, dear. Call me when you get here."

"Alright." Ellie said and disconnected the call.

"You look tensed, are you okay?"

She looked over her shoulder at John and Felicia, whom she had no idea were standing beside her.

"I'm going to Accra." She announced.

Frowning, Felicia asked, "What for?"

"My Mom is in the hospital. She's sick." Ellie answered, feeling a lump in her throat. Biting her lip, she shoved the phone back in her pocket.

Even though, she didn't know exactly what was wrong with her mother, she couldn't help but relate it to the divorce.    It was obvious the divorce was having a strong toll on her mother's mental and physical health.

"Come here." Felicia pulled Ellie into her arms and hugged her tightly. "She'll be fine." She murmured.

Ellie nodded. "I hope so."

Felicia pulled away. "Get going. I'll tell Mrs. Asenso you can't come with us to the court."

Ellie nodded. She felt John's hand linked with hers and she turned to look at him.
