Everything was set for the show whose finale would take place right by the enormous pool of the resort with the five finalists given thirty minutes to get ready. The media was around, as well as important dignitaries and famous chefs.

Ellie and her friends were encouraging the nervous Lily as she placed on her apron and hat, ready to knock out the show.

“You'll be fine. Just take in a deep breath and relax.” Ellie said.

“Thanks.” Lily hugged her and sighed. “I’m glad you guys are here to support. It really means a lot.”

“Count me in too. I could never miss this show.”

They heard a deep male voice and they turned to see Ashton dressed in a white shirt and grey chinos. He had few buttons opened, revealing a glimpse of his bare chest. With a smile enhancing his handsome features, he lifted his chin and stared in Lily’s direction.

“How’re you doing, Princess?” He said.

Lily grinned and rushed to him. “Princess? Don’t make me remember my dad. He’s the only one who calls by that title.”

Ashton pulled her into his arms and chuckled. “Yeah. Cos you’re going to be crowned today. I’m sure your dad is watching wherever he is.”

Lily pulled away and smiled. “I hope so. You didn’t tell me you were coming.”

Ellie stared at Ashton. She had no idea he would come for the contest, and hating to admit it, she was melting at the sight of him. He looked good and each time he smiled, her heart would flutter.

“I wanted to surprise you.” Ashton smiled at Lily. “And I succeeded in doing just that.”

“Yeah. Sure.” Lily said.

Ashton switched his gaze from Lily and immediately met Ellie’s eyes. Ellie felt uncomfortable to be caught staring at him, but before she could look away, he smiled at her.

“It’s nice to meet you again, Ellie.” He said.

Ellie smiled back. “Uh...Sure.” She looked away.

“You’re blushing?” Felicia whispered at her.

“No, I’m not.” Ellie replied in a gritted teeth.

Felicia chuckled. “Thanks for coming, Ashton.” She smiled at him.

“Of course!” Ashton smiled at her and waved at John.

“I need to get ready. It’s almost time.” Lily said.

“Sure. All the best.” They all chorused.

“Good afternoon. It’s great seeing you cheering up for her.” Harris walked towards them. “I wish I had friends who’d come to cheer me up.”

“Oh, sorry about that.” Felicia smiled at him. “Let me cheer you up.”

Harris chuckled. “I’m glad you want to do that and not have me arrested instead.”
Felicia blushed. “Well...” She shrugged.

“May the best win. But I’m positive that’ll be Lily.” Ellie smiled.

“Oh, I wouldn’t be surprised. She’s very good.” Harris smiled.

“Thanks.” Lily smiled back. “Likewise.”

Immediately Lily left to the poolside for the show, Ellie’s phone rang. She checked the caller ID and a frown crept her face.

“Who’s that?” Felicia asked.

“Paula.” Ellie said and answered the call, placing the phone by her left ear. “Yeah. What do you want?”

“Are you on your way to the studio? Kindly get me a bottle of coke and some fries from Leo’s.” Paula answered.

“Is this why you called?” Ellie shook her head. “I’m sure you’re aware I wouldn’t be around till Monday? I have something important to attend to.”

“Yeah. I know.” Paula replied. “Mr. Sarpong told me. Just called to wish Lily all the best.”

Ellie was silent after hearing that. Paula was not a total twerp after all. “Thanks.”

“Sure. It hurts not to host the show with you. But don’t worry, I’ll manage on my own. Just as I did the last time.”

Ellie rolled her eyes. “Whatever.” She took the phone from her ear and hang up.

“You’re getting real close to Paula. Who ever thought?” Felicia chuckled.

Ellie scoffed and rolled her eyes again.

He stared at her with a smile lifting the corners of his lips. He hadn’t expect to meet her there, but he was glad he did. Ashton could tell Ellie was trying not to meet his gaze. She was ignoring him.

He frowned and with a sigh, he shoved his hands deep inside his side pockets. He needed an alone time to ask how far with his proposal.

He switched his focus to the poolside at the finalists who were now lined up in front of the table. He checked his time, they still had ten minutes to start cooking.

He waved at Lily who was grinning at him from where she stood. She looked excited and anxious at the time. Her recipe was going to be her mother’s favourite which she’d come across in her recipe book. Ashton crossed his arms on his chest and sighed. He wished Mrs. Asenso was around to see her daughter fighting hard to win back their restaurant. He’d almost spilled out everything to her, but not wanting to upset Lily he’d kept mute.

Soon the contestants started cooking, busing themselves around the table with judges and spectators taking notes and watching closely at their skills. Ashton turned to Ellie who was sitting close to him.

She wore an anxious look on her face with her hands laid clenched on her laps as she stared at the stage, her focus on Lily. He touched her right hand softly and watched as she gasped a little. She looked at him, her brows furrowing and a look of confusion in her big, brown eyes.

He smiled at her and loosen her fists. “Don’t worry. She'll be fine.” He slipped his hand into hers, wrapping his fingers around her hand.

Ellie nodded. “Sure.”

She wriggled her hand in his, trying to free it but Ashton only tightened his grip, refusing to let go. He looked away unto the stage, staring at the nervous look on her face at the corner of his eye.

Ellie sighed and stayed still. She lifted her eyes to the stage and continued to watch the show.
