"And the Scientist of the Year award goes to," Mr. Russo said, I nervously closed my eyes, "Ms. Nala Velez." He said. As everyone around me cheered.
"Congratulations." Ray said.
"You deserve it." Barry said.
"I told you, that you were winning." Kara said as I walked towards the stage. I put a smile on my face. I shook Russo hand and he whispered in my ear, "You're going to change a lot of lives." I heard a beeping noise get louder and louder, my smiled slowly decreased. And I turned towards the mic.
"EVERYONE GET DOWN." I said as sure enough a bomb had went off on the side of the building. In a heartbeat both Kara, Kal, Barry, and Wally grabbed everyone from the side before the rubble came down on them.
10 Hours Earlier...
"My PhD should've gotten here." I said.
"Babe, it's coming." Winn said kissing my forehead. "Wait wouldn't you graduate before you got your degree?"
"Postponed until further notice." I said. I threw on my flannel and grabbed my sunglasses.
"Babe slow down." He said.
"Can't I have work in like five minutes." I said tucking in my shirt.
"I know but babe. Aren't you forgetting something?" He asked.
"Like." I said tying my shoes.
"Your bag," He held out and I grabbed it, I was about to head for the car but I realized he hadn't let go of the bag. I kissed him and he slid on my ring, "You never know. Could be an emergency."
I smiled, "You're right." I then closed the front door and headed to the backyard. I waved goodbye and he waved back. I flew to work and landed on Lena's balcony. I tapped on her office glass. She came to the door with a smile on her face.
"Well, you're a sight for sore eyes. How was your trip to visit your mother?" She asked me.
"It was good, I did get banged up so my apologies for not answering the phone when you called." I said standing in front of her desk.
"Please don't be so modest. We have more than enough scientists here as well as marketers, freelancers, and more." She said and then gesturing me to sit.
"Ah." I said.
"So, I was thinking. You could be my VP." She said and my jaw instantly dropped.
"Lena.. I can't. That would require a lot of my attention and you know I essentially can't do that." I said.
"Yes you can. You can even assemble your own team, change a department if you like. Format it to your compatibility." She said.
"Lena, this is your space. I am just an employee. I would technically be kinda sorta taking the action/hands on part of your job." I said.
"Not true, you would be second to me. I still have to approve, sign off and review. Like I have been this whole time. Nothing really changes but your title and the atmosphere of the department. I haven't been able to visit every floor and I know the thirteenth floor is practically vacated." She said.
"Maybe I could take the thirteenth floor and make a miracle out of it. But VP of L-Corp. That's huge, and I'm not sure if I can do something like that." I said.
"Fair enough." She said.
"Thanks again Lena." I said with a smile.
"No problem," She said then whispered, "Scientist of the year."
