Arabella finally got ready for the ball and was walking down a spiral staircase when she saw her mother and her father.

“Ahh thank you for not being a disobedient child and listening to my opinion. The white looks more proper.” She mentioned as she examined my dress again.

“Thank you I suppose.” I noted. The dress didn’t look as bad as I had thought. The dress was fluffy on the bottom and followed by a delicate lace trim of flowers. The top was coresste like with more flower detail. The top was uncomfortable and tight as the laces on the back were pulled to the tightest they could be.

“Father, you look especially charming as well. You know I love the navy.” I added.

My father and mother always made sure to look their best for every event. Their appearance was well kept and they made sure that I followed suit.

“Thank you Arabella we do share that in common. Do not forget to introduce yourself to as many people as possible at the ball. I want you to be well connected and to start gaining your own connections.” He explained, also eyeing my dress.

He always does this. He finds ways to make it more about business and social status rather than just having fun.

“Of course Father.” I murmured. I couldn’t help but nag at the bottom of my dress as the long lace trim followed when I walked.

As we walked towards the doors of the overly sized mansion, I couldn’t help but stare at the pictures that lined the walls. Many of them were filled with grandparents that had died many centuries ago. The thoughts flooded back that this would forever be my life and I’d be stuck.

As we climbed into one of our many limousines, I couldn’t help but wonder what this ball had entailed. We had the ball every year but this is the first year I would be accompanied with a boy. Not to brag but he was the cutest boy on the island.

The drive to the palace was a little over an hour away. Both my mother and father had not said a word to either each other or myself. It was always quiet and would remain so until we arrived at the ball.

I looked up after a while to see the bright white lights off in the distance. I recognized them almost immediately.

The palace was enormous. It covered acres of land and it backed the ocean, so the views were absolutely amazing.

“Don't forget Arabella not to slouch. It is one of the first signs of an un-lady like posture and attitude.” My mother said sternly looking over at my half slouched body.

“I won’t mother.” I said back quickly, adjusting my posture so she couldn’t make any remarks. I wasn’t the best at following the rules in place for the princesses. Many of them had it down but for me, I was barely getting the hang of it.

As the limousine pulled into the vast driveway, I saw around a hundred other similar black cars there too.

I noticed one in particular. There were little blue and yellow flags that sat on top of the hood of the limousine.

There he stood. He had light blonde hair that had the slightest curls. His facial structure was strong and he stood at around 6’2. He really was the most beautiful boy on the island.

He walked up to me and I took in his presence. He wore the most adorable suit that was navy with ivory trimmings. His fingers were lightly covered with dark rings and he wore a gold necklace that was easily covered by the collar of the suit.

“Hello Finn Sinclaire.” I said taking aback. I said it in a more sarcastic tone because he knows that I hate addressing him in a formal way.

Finn and I had been dating for over eight months now. We were forced by our families to date so that we could connect the blood of our royal families. But as we hung out more, we both fell for each other more.
