"You drool when you sleep."
Were the first words Percy heard when he woke up. He opened his eyes groggily to see a beautiful blonde girl with piercing grey eyes, wearing an orange camp shirt and denim shorts. "Wake up, sleepy head, we won't have time for breakfast," Annabeth said, slightly shaking her boyfriend. "Just five more minutes, please," Percy mumbled and rolled over, pulling his covers over his head. "No, no, no. You have been saying that for the past hour! C'mon wake up, Seaweed Brain!" Annabeth yelled, pulling the covers off of Percy. Percy groaned, but still refused to get up.
Time for drastic measures, then. "If you don't wake up now, no blue cookies for a week," Annabeth threatened. Percy shot up straight. Not being able to eat blue cookies is as bad as being possessed. And Percy knew first-hand how it was like to be possessed.
Percy quickly got ready for breakfast, wearing a CHB shirt and blue jeans with his bead necklace. Annabeth was waiting for him outside. Percy threaded his fingers with Annabeth's and they walked towards the dining pavilion, talking about anything. In the pavilion were only few campers left, most having finished their breakfast.
The couple sat down together at the Poseidon table. The rule that you only had to sit with your own cabin had become very flexible nowadays. Anyone sat anywhere. Percy's plate magically filled with eggs, toast and sausages, all of them a bright shade of blue. His goblet was filled with blueberry juice.
Percy continued stuffing his face (he was very hungry) while Annabeth ate at a more dignified pace. Her plate was covered with fruit, fruit and yet more fruit. On one side of the plate, a single strip of bacon lay, looking neglected.
Percy looked at Annabeth's plate and said, "Wise Girl, I know fruits are super healthy and all that, but this is overkill." "On the other hand, you run away when a fruit is within five feet of you. It wouldn't kill you to eat something healthy for once, Percy," she scolded. Percy pouted, putting on his 'lost baby seal' expression. Annabeth tried to keep her glare on her face, but she could feel it slipping away as she looked into Percy's clear sea-green eyes. She sighed, shook her head slightly and went back to eating her breakfast.
Once they finished they went to the sword training arena. Nico di Angelo, son of Hades, was already there, fighting with Will Solace, son of Apollo. Nico was easily overpowering him. Percy guessed Nico was teaching Will.
"Ready to lose, Seaweed Brain?" Annabeth asked, smiling evilly and twirling her drakon-bone sword. "Oh you know I'm gonna lose, Wise Girl," Percy said. He got his desired effect. "Wait, what? You said you're gonna-" She didn't get to finish her sentence. Percy slammed the flat of his blade, but even after a distraction, Annabeth was quick. She blocked it with her sword. They parried with their blades for a long time. Since they knew each other's moves so well, they could guess what the other was going to do before they actually did it. And that is what made it so difficult. The two went on for about fifteen minutes. Strike, parry, dodge, block. Finally, Percy got impatient and summoned a wave of water from the lake, dousing Annabeth in cold water. She gasped. Percy quickly knocked her sword out of her hand and held his sword at her neck.
"I won." "That was cheating and you know it!" Annabeth yelled. "Nope. When you're a son of Poseidon, using water to your advantage is not cheating," Percy countered. He moved his sword away from Annabeth's neck and relaxed his stance. Immediately, Annabeth recovered her sword and pushed Percy to the ground. She put her knee on his chest and held her sword at his neck. "Never assume your opponent is defeated," she breathed. Percy smiled and kissed Annabeth lightly. "Lesson learned."
They both stood up and brushed the dirt off their clothes. That's when Percy noticed that all the people in arena were staring at them. "That was amazing," breathed Will Solace. Most were new campers, gawking at them with their mouths hanging open. Nico just smirked, shook his head and walked away, dragging Will along with him.
Percy and Annabeth blushed deeply and walked away awkwardly. Hours of training later, Percy was exhausted. He'd been trying out archery, but he could swear Apollo was doing this on purpose. His arrows would violently swerve to the side, even when there was no wind, and hit another camper square in the face. Some Apollo campers tried to help him but there was nothing they could do. All that remained of the bow after Percy gave up was a pile of wood splinters.
He was lying on his bed in his cabin and was just about to drift off when he heard a knock on the door. He sat up and said, "Come in." Nico poked his head inside the door. "Chiron's called a meeting with all the head counsellors. Come on." Oh no, thought Percy. This can't be good. He walked out of his cabin to the Big House.
Most of the other counsellors were already seated around the ping-pong table which served as their conference table. Travis Stoll was having a heated argument with his girlfriend, Katie. Connor was busy sticking pencils up Clovis' nose, who was peacefully dreaming away. Will and Nico were arguing about Nico's shadow travel. It looked like Will won the argument because he sat with his arms folded, grinning triumphantly. Jason and Piper were earnestly discussing something. Of all the couples present, they were the only one not arguing. Lou Ellen was colouring each strand of Butch's hair a different colour as he obliviously talked to Clarisse about battle weapons. The others were simply lazing around and talking idly to the one next to them.
That was when Percy realised Annabeth wasn't here yet. He immediately stood up, about to search for her. "Hey, where's Annabeth? Did anyone tell her about the meeting?" "Yeah, I told her right before I came to you, Percy," said Nico. As if right on cue, Annabeth ran inside the Big House, panting and holding her sides. Percy immediately went over to her and held her hand. She held up one finger in answer to his silent question. Exactly one minute later, she straightened up and apologised for being late. "Why late, Annabeth?"asked Chiron. She blushed deep red and mumbled something too quiet to hear. "What was that?" Percy asked. She blushed even more and averted her eyes. "Spider in the Athena cabin."
