Three Simple Houses

There stands three simple houses
in three different counties
in the Province of Alberta.
Each connected to one simple family.
Every home holds secrets and stories
both tragic and lovely;
there is no difference here.

The eldest was built
by the loving hands
of a husband and father
to protect and warm
the ones he loved.
The legends it holds are mostly elating,
stories of a family;
filled with love, devotion and truth.
If those walls could talk
oh, the stories they could tell!
It now remains standing
forgotten and lost to time,
a mere memory of a simpler life.

The middle-aged house
is small to modern homes.
Two beds, one bath.
Built in a time
of changing designs
and ideals.
Stuck in two lifetimes.
It has held two families.
Two different cultures collided,
one true friendship was born.
From late nights of card games
and reminiscing old times.
It now remains standing,
with only one friend left inside.
Both a testament
to the unending bonds we make in life.

The youngest was bought
in hopes of a happy life
for a young family of five.
Unseen from the outside
is a hard truth of life;
that pain exists and can remain
long after its occupants leave.
A young mother had her heart
shattered by the man
who vowed to love her for life.
Not only a relationship destroyed in on night,
but a family's whole future derailed.
No one knows how their lives would have been.
It remains standing,
a landmark
for a moment in time
when two lifetimes were created.

Though the simple family
has changed over time,
their memories will always remain;
in three simple houses,
in three different counties,
in the Province of Alberta.
