The familiar sound of your doorbell ringing awoke you from your slumber, groggily you pulled yourself from under the maze of covers on your bed. Whoever was at the door really had no sense of time, as it was 6:00am on a Saturday morning.
The doorbell stopped ringing, only for a rhythmic knocking to start up. "Alright, alright. Someone's way too eager." Unbolting the door, you opened it with an annoyed huff of breath. Once you saw who it was, a hand flew straight to your hair in an effort to tame it slightly.
"Winchester?" The world left your lips with utter disbelief.
It was Dean. Dean Winchester. The person you had been closest with at high school, and he had just appeared out of the blue.
You jumped at a light touch of his hand on your shoulder. "Y/N, you look like you've seen a ghost... And believe me I know what that expression looks like." A small chuckle broke the silence that followed and Dean stepped a little closer to you. "Can I come in? It's kinda chilly out here."
You nodded slowly, moving to the side and letting him inside. Trying not to grab him into a crushing hug was proving extremely difficult. It was a few minutes until you both were settled comfortably in your living room. You looked up at him, eyes meeting for a second before Dean looked away, his reluctance to talk was noticeable. "You okay Winchester?" You asked playfully, with a hint of concern lacing your tone. "Yeah yeah. I'm fine Y/N."
"I smell bullshit... Dean you can't just turn up at six in the morning to my house. Add the fact that I haven't even spoken to you since high school-" your voice caught as you remembered how you felt that day. Everyone thought Sam and Dean Winchester had been killed by some madman who stormed the school, shooting at anything and anyone he came into contact with. Then he vanished without so much as an empty casing in the hallways.
Dean was looking at you now, his usually bright green eyes dulled by the realisation you were upset. "I thought you were dead... And when I didn't hear a thing from you I sorta believed the rumours going round school were true." You rubbed your eyes, heaving a strained sigh that was filled with angst.
"I'm so sorry... I had no idea,I woulda-"
"It doesn't matter what you would have done, it's what you didn't do that hurt the most Dean."
No one spoke for at least five minutes until Dean pulled you into his arms, a warm embrace met your frame and you melted into it. His warmth comforting as much as it was relieving. "School was hell without you. I remember that much."
Dean clicked his tongue in sympathy, "Life was a load of crap without you too." He replied gruffly, holding you a little nearer to his chest than was necessary. Dean began drawing lazily on your back with his finger, knowing exactly that his early impromptu arrival would have woken you up way earlier than usual. "Go to sleep if you want, I'm not going anywhere." Dean whispered, placing a chaste kiss to your hair.
"Thanks for not forgetting me Winchester."
