Adam x Reader (for Thelittlewolf45 )

// Got a bit carried away with this one. Sorry!

The wind and rain that night was fierce, whipping up your golden hair in a complete frenzy, blowing it in every direction. Cursing slightly under your breath, you tried to rectify the damage, only for your hair to be messed up almost immediately. You knew exactly where you were thank god, otherwise the weather would have most definitely put you off course. The demon you were hunting was not too far from here, it had been a tricky son of a bitch to track down, and finally cornering it was to say the least a pretty good feeling.

Shimmying awkwardly into a side alley that was littered with discarded beer cans and broken glass bottles, you crouched behind a waste bin, carefully sketching a devil's trap in front of you. The demon was bound to show up, it had never failed to before. Sure enough, about ten minutes later a man's voice echoed around the dingy walls of the alley and you tensed up, clutching the vial of holy water you held a little tighter than before. As the voice became more clear and less like muffled shouting you were able to make out what he was saying. "Get away from me, you complete son of a bitch. What is your problem?" You exhaled deeply, so this guy didn't sound like the demon... More like someone who was being pursued by one. By the looks of things he didn't seem too prepared either. "Damn. Am I going to have to kill this thing and save your ass too?" you muttered to yourself, shaking your head.

A few seconds later, as the man was stumbling towards you, grunting curses of pain. "Hey... It's okay, just come over here ya idiot. I'll deal with the wee terror." A small laugh left your lips as you stood up, motioning for the man to get behind you. He happily obliged, giving you a small smile.

Adam. Adam Milligan was his name. The syllables were still dancing around in your head long after he had introduced himself. You were sat in a dimly lit motel room just outside San Francisco, clutching a small bottle of beer, your chin resting on your knees. Adam was perched on the rickety wooden chair by the bedside. Silence had consumed you both, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Just... Silence.

"Hey er, Y/N... Maybe you should know, that's not the first demon that's come after me. I've lost count of how many I've had to escape from. Not to mention freaking ghosts too." Adam's voice was slow and steady, but even you could tell what he was hinting at. "I can help, if you want that is. Show you the ropes as it were..." you were interrupted by Adam's gaze which had fallen on you, it felt like he was examining your features. So you raised your eyebrow in question. Adam's cheeks soon became as red as the lampshade next to him, "Sorry it's just... I've never seen someone with silver eyes, I mean they're beautiful. Your accent too, you're not from around here?" You shook your head, no. "I was born and raised in Scotland." Your sing song voice, and slowly emerging smile made Adam sit up and smile back. "About what you said... I think that's a good idea."

That was how you became Adam Milligan's hunting partner, it may seem cliche as hell but from that quiet, unassuming moment in that motel room you two were completely, utterly inseparable. Each hunt that followed had its own dangers and traps, but as long as you had each other to keep you sane, not much could go wrong. Adam never tired of listening to your old hunting tales, or your sometimes critical words at his shooting technique. No one had quite understood you like him before, and it was a strange feeling.

A year after you had first met, a tricky hunt had arisen, Adam had tried to persuade you to call some other hunters, as this demon was notoriously hard to gank. "Hence why it's still freaking alive." he had shouted angrily at you. Foolishly you decided to handle this one on your own. Something about female pride and showing Adam you could do it whatever stupid warnings he threw at you, this was your first hunt alone since the demon that had brought you together.

"Get it over with then, you son of a bitch."

You were crushed between a heavy wooden bench and a cold stone wall, in some abandoned warehouse, staring the demon defiantly in the eyes. "Ooh. You're quite the feisty one aren't you? Don't worry dear I'll soon solve that." She then pushed the bench further into your midriff, causing a sharp intense pain to shoot through you. The demon mock frowned, "I bet that'll bruise in the morning... If you make it that is."

"Why don't you just kill me?"

"What and miss out on all the fun of making you suffer? Please, mercy is not my thing."

"It never freaking is with you guys."

The demon leant forward and punched you square in the jaw, now a bulldozing blackness was coursing through your head, and you could taste the familiar metallic tang of blood. "Ugh. I was getting real fed up of your stupid whiny voice."

Before you could even register the next blow, her knuckles collided with your cheek with a loud crack, the darkness then grew absolute.

"Y/N? Damnit, please just...wake up already." Adam was pressing a soothingly cold flannel to your battered cheek, and was shaking your shoulder gently in order not to cause you any more discomfort. "Huh?" Your vision was hazy and you could only make out a faint outline of his concerned features peering down at you. "Adam? Where am I? " Suddenly sitting bolt upright you squeaked inaudibly because of the sheer pain running through your body, "Did you kill her?" Adam nodded slowly, a smile crossing his face, "Yeah. Now for god sake lay back down or you'll end up hurting yourself even more." The smile disappeared and he took on a mock serious expression. "Y/N, you scared the crap out of me. Just promise you won't do it again, go off by yourself I mean. If you hadn't of left your research up on the laptop I don't think I would have found you..." he trailed off, unable to keep his brave composure, his mouth forming a straight line and his eyes glazed over with sadness. You suddenly felt extremely sheepish and reached to take his limp hand in yours, rubbing your fingers softly over his palms. "I won't." you whispered, hoping your voice sounded as sincere as you felt. Adam moved to face you properly, bending down and lightly pressing his lips to your bruised cheek. "Now be quiet and get better, I bought burgers and beer. The perfect remedy huh?" You stifled a giggle and pulled him down into a soft kiss.
