Castiel x Reader:

I wrote this at like three in the morning so it probably sucks ah I'm sorry x

You were curled up on a plush armchair in a less than pleasant motel room, with your headphones in and turned up to full volume so you could block out the sound of your boyfriend's raised voice in the other room. When you heard the distinct sound of a heavy object smashing into the wall you braced yourself for the worst. He had come storming in after a night at some kind of strip club, you didn't know what had happened but damn, he was angry as hell... Okay who were you kidding. You knew exactly why his temper had flared, it was just one simple thing. Alcohol.

After about an hour of him yelling drunk abusive nothings at you, you decided you'd had enough. With a new stinging bruise forming on your left cheek you slammed the door of the motel room shut with a loud bang. He was an asshole. Accusing you of cheating? He was the one who had been to a freaking strip club. At least now it was over, and about time too.

Starting your 1970's Chevy Malibu, you pulled out of the motel parking lot and onto the open road. Led Zeppelin was the obvious choice of music, when the first few notes of Kashmir started playing you turned up the volume and hummed along to the rhythmic beat. With a huffed outtake of breath you realised you had nowhere to rest for the night. "Sleeping in the car it is then." You mumbled to yourself.
"Hello Y/N." a crisp, deep voice spoke from the passenger side of the car and it took all your strength not to veer off into the nearest road barrier. "What the f-fuck? How the f- what are you... Oh crap." You had been so busy shooting confused glances at the man sat beside you in a battered trench coat that you had failed to notice an upcoming road block, shielding your face with your free hand you got ready for the impact. But it never came. The stranger lent over and touched two cool fingers on your forehead and everything went black.

When you awoke, the sound of white noise was piercing your ears and you gritted your teeth in discomfort. The room gradually came into focus after you had rubbed your eyes and squinted into the dimly lit space. You could make out a figure stood a little way from where you were sitting, the mysterious man in the trench coat...

The man sighed, and his brow furrowed "Yes. I am Castiel. Angel of The Lord."
"Huh yeah, and I'm a freaking unicorn."
"I don't think you are taking me seriously..."
You looked up into the supposed "Angel's" face and your features were carved with sympathy.
"Let me guess, no one really does when you tell them that?"
He simply shrugged and looked down at his battered shoes before glancing up at you again.
"Do I have to prove it to you?" His voice was laced with sadness and you couldn't help feel a tad guilty about your earlier mocking. But come on, this guy surely wasn't being serious... Was he? Realisation dawned on you, and you chewed your lip nervously.
"You saved my life-"
"I was the one who caused the incident by distracting you."
"Well yeah I guess but... Hey er Castiel is it? Thank you."
"My friends call me Cas. I don't know why, they say Castiel is too formal."

Everything seemed so bizarre, your head began spinning slightly and the angel in front of you began to merge in with the surrounding furniture. You could just about make out another male voice coming from the doorway. "Castiel... Have you told her yet?"
What? Told me what... Oh man, if this is a dream I am going straight to a god damn doctor when I wake up, you thought to yourself.
"No. I don't believe she is taking anything I say seriously. She responded with saying she was a non existent mythical beast."
"Unicorns so do exist." Another voice chimed in.
"Uh... This has been real nice and everything but please, please can I just go home." You didn't have the fight in you to make a run for it, and from what you had heard these three men were completely insane... Yeah you were so dead. "If you're going to kill me then y'know I'd appreciate it if y'all did it sooner rather than later." Your voice had meant to sound brave and unwavering, but from the puzzled expression Castiel was sporting you guessed that had failed. "I do not want to hurt you Y/N... This may be hard for you to understand but I am..." He trailed off, obviously searching for a precise word. "I am what you would call your guardian angel." You peered into his face for any signs that he was joking with you, but it was complete stone, and his tone was one of earnest.
"Why me?" Your voice came out as a croak and you quickly cleared your throat in a vain attempt not to appear weak.
"It seems our... souls if you will, have been connected through centuries."
"So kind of like fate then?"
"Yes."
You threw your hands up in exasperation and let out a laugh of disbelief, "Y'all are crazy."
"Think... Think Y/N, how many times have you got out of situations that seemed inescapable? Have you ever wondered how that happened?"
Suddenly crestfallen, you bit down hard on your lip soon tasting the familiar metallic tang of blood.
"It was you. All of the times I-" falling silent, you were at a loss for words, your bravado front was utterly dismantled and you felt very small indeed. An arm snaked around your shoulder and you looked up to see Castiel's face extremely close to yours. "Your soul is beautiful, much like you. If only you would believe that once in a while."
"Shut up. Just shut up, I never asked for this, I don't deserve any of it. Find someone who does."

Castiel felt an unpleasant jolt in his stomach as your words echoed that of his to when he had met Dean properly. Dean hadn't believed that he was worth saving either.

Fingers intertwined with yours and lips pressed against your temple, somewhere deep inside you all of this made sense. No matter how much you were trying to shake it all off as some crazy dream... You believed it. Castiel had your complete trust and you had only known him for ten minutes, but that ten minutes seemed like a lifetime.
