Distractions

~Chapter 20~

"Get on my back."
"Huh?"
"Do you want me to leave you here? Get on my back😐."
Hyejin leaned in and Jungsoo picked her up. They walked back to camp in silence. He took her to his cabin since he didn't want to waste time looking for hers.
"Where are y-"
"I will put you right back where I found you."

They reached his cabin, and since everybody was gathered around the fire, they were alone. He put her on his bed and he went into the bathroom for emergency supplies. Hyejin sat there, arms crossed, blank faced. Jungsoo came back and put a bandage, alcohol and cotton pads on the bed next to her. He then sat in a chair next to her, arms crossed, pissed. Hyejin stared at him blank faced for a while until she decided she would cover up her cut. She started to reach for the bandage.
"Clean it first."
"Hu-"
"Pass me the alcohol and pads please," Jungsoo said impatiently. She passed it to him. He cleaned then bandaged her cut. He then leaned back in his chair and started staring at her again, still pissed. Confused, Hyejin looked away for a split second then back at his eyes.
"What were you thinking?"
" 'I hate people. I need to escape.' "
"Hyejin I'm not playing with you. Something worse could've happened to you."
"And you care...why?"
Jungsoo's eyes widened slightly then he shifted his gaze somewhere else.
"Wel-"
"After you left me alone in the hospital?? After you did not call me once after I got hit?? After you ignored me for months??"
"I was trying to protect you-" He tried to hold back tears as he furrowed his eyebrows.
"Protect me?! You left me broken for months! And you snuggling up to Haewon in the meantime didn't help ANYTHING!"
"Leave her out of this."
Hyejin scoffed.
"Fuck you." She got up, slammed the door, and walked to her cabin ignoring her knee pain. Haewon watched her come out of the cabin as the noise caught her attention since she wasn't invested in the camp fire.
"Wasn't that Jungsoo's bunk..." Haewon said to Minnie, eyeing Hyejin disgustedly.

Hyejin sat on her bed and stared into space. She heard her cabin door open. It was Haewon and her minion.
"Why were you in Jungsoo's cabin?"
"Ask him. He was the one who brought me there."
Haewon walked closer to her.
"Listen, I advise you to stay away from him or we're going to have a problem."
"Yeah. And I advise you to fuck off, skank." Hyejin walked out.
Haewon grabbed her by her hair as soon as she stepped foot outside. People automatically saw the commotion.
Hyejin escaped from her grip then slapped Haewon's face once, hard. Minnie just stood there, mouth covered. Hyejin ended up straddling Haewon, punching her. She only got three punches in when someone grabbed her from behind and took her away.
"GET OFF OF ME. DON'T TOUCH ME." Jungsoo let her go and she went back into the forest. Mind blank, she didn't care if she was lost, which did help her quickly find the waterfall again. She just wanted to be somewhere away from people. It was dark but you could still see the water. It calmed her in minutes.

"Where is she going??" A teacher called after her. Jungsoo signaled him to stop.
"I know where she went. She'll be back, let her calm down."

Hyejin stayed still for about 10 minutes. She then felt someone accompany her. She didn't care at that point. She didn't even look their way. After 5 minutes they broke the silence.
"Hey."
Hyejin looked their way then back front.
"What do you want, Jungsoo."
He stayed quiet. He eventually got something out.
"I never got back with Haewon, you know." Jungsoo kept staring forward until she finally looked at him.
"You disturbed my peace. To tell me that."
"Hyejin, I never meant to leave you alone without an explanation. I mean I did, but-"
She scoffed then looked back at the faint water.
"Look. When you got hit I felt that it was my fault you got seriously hurt. I took you to the hospital and decided it was better if I stayed away from you."

*flashback*

Jungsoo stopped dead in his tracks.
"BABE MOVE-"
"DON'T CALL BE BABE. WE'RE OVER. LEAVE ME THE FUCK AL-"

*CRASH*

"No. No no no no no.." He ran and grabbed her in his arms. He looked up at the driver that hit her.
"CALL THE POLICE, NOW."
The driver was still stunned so he stood still.
"NOW!!!"
The driver scrammed back to his car to get his phone.

At the hospital

Jungsoo sat outside Hyejin's room on her phone looking for her dad's contact. After calling him, he sat there waiting for some news. The nurse came out. She called him in. Walking in, the nurse said,
"She's in a semi-coma. Did you contact a parent?"
"Yeah..."
Jungsoo gave the nurse Hyejin's phone. He stared at her for a while. About to cry, he decided she was best without him. He left the hospital not planning on coming back. He beat himself up for months blaming everything that happened on him.

*flashback end*

"Oh, and that kiss you saw? It meant nothing. I only came to the party to tell her off and get you out of there. But her being the person she is..."
Hyejin looked at him.
"But after everything happened, Haewon was just emotional support. Everything got to me and I had nobody to lean on."
"Your friends???"
"They're not what I'd call a source of comfort..."
They laughed. It was silent for a while.
"I'm sorry Hyejin."
"I'm sorry too."
"It's not your fault."
Hyejin started to cry. Jungsoo silently held her trying not to cry as well.
"None of this would've happened in the first place if I had just listened to you and Seonmin."
"It's over now anyway. It's over." He rubbed her back.
