Her and Derek both flipped over the stick eager to see the answer it held, so much tension was held up in that moment and it was an undesirable feeling.
Pregnant.
"Derek..." he whisper filled the quite room as she had the answer first. "We're..." Derek started to say but he couldn't finish his sentence due to the uncontrollable excitement in his head, "we're having a baby!" Meredith squeeled as she jumped up and down in the hallway of their house. "We're gonna be parents mer!" He pulled her in for a hug trying to stop her wiggling and squirming. She leaned her head over his shoulder and started to cry a bit, "Mer" he comforted her as she was crying happy tears. "I can't believe this is actually happening" his shoulder was soaked with tears as Derek pulled her in as close as he could. "I love you" she said as they shared a happy and intimate kiss. "Not as much as I love you" he replied while stroking his hands up and down her back, "I'm gonna puke" she whispered as he tried to lean in for another kiss. "Ohh don't puke in my mouth please." He laughed as she ran to the bathroom, him following after her to hold his wife's hair.
——-6 months later———
"What do you think about grace Lynn, or kamden James?" Meredith was flipping through a magazine full of motherly tips and neonatal precautions. "Are you thinking of calling out baby by their first and middle name?" He looked over at her and realized she wasn't listening to anybody other than her book. She replied a few seconds later, "or Oliver Jax?" She wasn't paying any attention to his questions, just her baby names which she found quite cute. "What do you think it's gonna be?" He asked as he leaned down to her fairly large stomach, considering she was 7 months pregnant and nearing her due date. "I want a daddy's girl." He stated as he started singing to the baby. "I want a boy" she said as she ran her through his hair. "Well isn't that just funny" Derek commented at the fact that they both wanted the opposite genders. "Ohh Grayson Bryce?" Meredith was firing names at him faster than he could process, "maybe we will know when we see it" by now Derek was trying to fall asleep as Meredith was eager to finish her reading. Eventually she decided to go to sleep before the baby woke up and started to kick.
The next morning Meredith woke up to the smell of pancakes. She smiled at the thought of fluffy pancakes and eating as many as she could. She managed to waddle downstairs and find the source of the wonderful smell, "good morning!" Derek was attempting to flip a raw pancake. "Morning" she was still rubbing her eyes and yawned before sitting down. "Any kicks?" Derek asked while looking at her huge stomach. "Not yet" Meredith was thankful for the baby still being asleep, it wasn't the best way to wake up with a baby kicking your rib cage. "Pancakes?" He asked while twirling the spatula in his hand. "Sounds delicious" she commented while eyeing the heated stack of pancakes on the counter. Derek handed Meredith 3 pancakes and she finished them before his could finish his 1. "Hungry?" He laughed before grabbing her another pancake, "very" she had of course finished the fourth in less than 30 second before she went upstairs to shower and get dressed. "Derek we have to go to the baby whatever store today" Derek was sitting in the nursery setting up the crib and rocking chair. "Oh ya, we will do that after your done" he wasn't sure if she heard him but he just carried on with the nursery building.
"You ready?" Meredith peered her head through the nursery doors to find Derek struggling. "Um ya, I think so" all Meredith did was laugh and walk to the front door. In the car Derek couldn't keep his hands off of her belly the whole ride, "ugh I can't wait any longer" he groaned. You could tell he really wanted this baby, and so did Meredith. They where going to be parents. "Just 2 more months" she placed her hand over Dereks as he focused on the road. They finally got to the baby store after about 10 minutes and started searching around. "Ok we need colors" they where sitting in the paint swatch isle browsing through colors. "Teal, yellow, mint, lavender?" Meredith was picking up a bunch of unisex colors that could suit a boy or girl, they didn't want to know the gender until the baby was born. "How about dark blue? We won't set up decorations yet and the color can go with girl and boy decorations" Derek was obviously better at this than Meredith but she refused to admit it. "That sounds nice! We could do gold if a girl for decorations and maybe a white if it's a boy." Once they picked the colors they went to the furniture isle, "ok we need diaper station, curtains, carpet, and high chair." Meredith had labeled more things on the list than Derek had thought. "Ok, let's get started!" They where probably in the store for 3 hours and by that time Merediths feet where ready to give in. "Derek can we go home now?" He noticed a while ago that she was starting to walk a little funny, more painful than her usual waddle. "Yep let's go" they paid for all their stuff and went home.
——-4 hours later———
Once they had all the stuff in the nursery half set up, they decided to go to sleep oven though it was only 8:00. "Derek..." Meredith could feel Derek falling asleep while holding her. "Ya?" He opened his eyes and leaned over to see her. "If it's a boy, I decided on a name" Derek didn't want to pick names yet but if she liked it then why not. "Weston Grey Shepherd." Derek took a minute to think about the name before replying, "that's perfect" you could see Meredith smile even though it was dark. "What about you? For a girl?" Meredith said, letting him pick the other name. "I like..." he thought about it for a second. "Harper grace." Meredith turned around to face him, "that's cute, I like that." And then they both fell asleep.
