Strength

Derek POV:
I watched as my wife got shocked, I watched my wife's ribs breaks, and I watched my wife flatline...

"Please! Please! Meredith don't die!" I stood there watching her through the window, I stood there crying as all the doctors went silent. "W-what are they doing" Callie was standing right next to me with tears in her eyes. "Their waiting" I looked over and saw them all standing still. "Please stay alive" I whispered under my breath. The tension in that 40 seconds was enough to drive me crazy. I sat there staring until her monitor finally came to a stable sound. "Oh thank god!" I collapsed in Callies arms hugging her tightly.

I saw Altman walk through the door after about 10 minutes. "Her ribs are most likely all broken. And she will be in severe pain for the next day or so. But you can go in" I thanked her and then rushed to her side. I put my hand on her head while tears streamed down my face. "Don't do that again" I whispered into her hand. "I love you, don't scare me like that" my hands where shaking as I held her cold hands in mine. I ran my fingers through her hair before I laid by her side holding her tight. "I love you" where my last words before I fell asleep.

"D-d-Derek" a scratchy voice hollowed through my ear drums as it woke me up. I ignored it at first before realizing it was Meredith. "Oh ya, what do you need?" I jumped out of bed to see her beautiful green eyes open. "Water" she whispered. I brought it over to her and held it up to her mouth with a straw. She took a few sips before I se tit down on the counter. "You scared me" I ran my fingers through her honey hair again as it calmed me down. "I'm sorry" I looked at her with sadness as she thought this was her fault. "No,no don't be sorry. Just be you" I smiled and kissed her on the head. "I.. love you" she managed to get out between coughs. "Not as much as I love you" she smiled with her eyes closed as I looked at the clock. "Are you tired?" She opened her eyes, "no, just I don't like the light." I walked to the door and dimes the lights which helped her matter. "Where's my baby?" She looked around the room trying to find a little ball of cuteness. "With Callie and Arizona" he face relaxed as she knew Harper was safe. "Good that's good" I looked up at the clock again. "It's 9:00 in the morning do you want some food?" Her eyes met with mine again like magnets and she nodded her head. "I wanna come" she untangled her IV cords and sat up with a small shot of pain.

Meredith POV:
I sat on the edge of the bed with small sparks of pain flying through my ribs. I stood up holding onto my IV pole as Derek held onto my back and shoulders. "Ready?" He asked leading us to the door. "As I'll every be" he throws me a smile helping me walk towards the elevator. We get to the door and put a lot of my body weight in him to rest, he holds me by the waist as we wait for the door to open.

It finally dings and we step inside. Derek leans against the back wall as I lean against him for support. He decides to cut the silence, "a lot of things happened in this elevator" he whispered in my ear. I giggled and turned around, "yes a lot of things did happen" I smile and give him a kiss before the door opened. "Ooh food!" I turned around and walked out of the elevator walking towards the buffet. Derek laughed at my child-ness and followed me over.

We got our food and sat down at a table. "So, I was thinking... for the house, we should get a pool" he pulled out a blue print on his phone and showed it to me. "Maybe in a little bit, I want to let Harper grow up first" he nodded in approval and out his phone away. "Do you work today?" I asked starting a conversation. "Nope" we both smiled and finished our food. "I'm going to go to the washroom I'll be right back" he kissed me on the fore head and then left to go to the bathroom.

Derek POV:
I gave Mer a quick kiss and then started walking towards the men's room when somebody stopped me, I bumped right into them and they dropped all of their papers. "Oh sorry!" I got down on my knees and helped her pick up the files. I looked up and saw who it was... "rose?" I got up and we both looked at each-other dead in the eyes. "Derek, hi" we both laughed. "Isn't this how we first met?" I gave her the last piece of paper and she folded it in her arms. "Thank you...Derek" we both looked at each-other for what felt like ever.

She started to lean in towards me so that our faces where now centimeters apart. I could feel her breath on my lips as she leaned closer, I sat there frozen for a minute but then snapped back to reality. "Uhp what are you doing?" I backed away before she closed the gap between up. "Oh come Derek, are you really that blind. You don't love her, you love me... what do you say we get out of here, start a new life. You and me?" She started moving herself closer to me as I backed away again. "No... I love my wife. And my daughter. I have an amazing house, and a wife who brings me breakfast in bed every morning (if you guys know what I mean...) "and she's the love of my life" I turned around and walked towards then men's room again. "You'll regret this Derek! She probably sucks in bed!" Rose yelled out from down the hall, I laughed and then yelled one last time before disappearing "no that's you who sucked!" I winked at her and then walked into the bathroom.

I came out a minute later and walked back to the cafeteria where Meredith was waiting, "hey! You will not believe what just happened" I sat down beside her again and she gave me a smile. "What?" She placed her hands on mine as I told her my little story.

"Really? Rose?" She was processing the story through her head, "I'll just make sure to kill her next time I spot her" we both laughed as we stood up walking back towards our room. "Do you know how much I love you" she laid her head on my arm as we walked back to the elevator. I smiled and asked, "your being weird." She looked up at me, "George told me to tell you that, 'I love you'" I looked at her, "you saw George?" I kissed her head as I saw a tear form in her eye. "I saw George" we both got int he elevator and walked back up to our room.

Meredith POV:
I laid back down on the bed and sighed in relief, "ahh I love this bed" I traced my fingers along the pattern of our bed sheets. "And I love you" I turned around and Derek leaned in to kiss me. He handed me a black silk night gown to wear for the rest of the day. "What was that for" I asked with my cheeks painted red. "Oh just a little kiss to start the day" he leaned in and kissed me again as I stepped into the night gown. "Ok, ok I'm tired" I smiled as he pulled away. "Ok, I guess I can make an exception" he winked and then helped me back into bed. We had gotten a bigger hospital bed for Derek and I to both sleep in. And of course when Harper stayed with us.I rolled onto my side and Derek hugged me from behind. He had shut the lights off and closed the blinds so that it was almost pitch black. "Mm good night, I love you" I felt him kiss my cheek as my eyes closed. "Derek..." he lifted his head off my shoulder, "ya?"
"Can you not let go?" I wiggled closer into his chest as I felt his grip tighten on me. "I'll never let go" he kissed my cheek and then laid his head back down on my shoulder. I let my eyes fall asleep as my body warmed in his touch.

"Good morning beautiful" Derek leaned down and kissed Meredith, his lips where filled with passion and desire. "Good morning handsome" she smiled as Derek made his way down to her tummy. "And good morning, princess or prince" he kissed her stomach and then they both got out of bed.

"Harper! Come down stairs sweetheart or your not gonna have time for breakfast!" Meredith called from the kitchen. Minutes later Harper came running downstairs. "Good morning mom, and good morning dad" she both gave them hugs as she grabbed her toast and buttered it. "So I have a science class today, and my friends want you guys to come in" Meredith and Derek both looked at their 12 year old daughter. "Um honey, dad and I both have very busy schedules as surgeons" Harper looked at them with her big blue eyes. "I know that, that's why you join my meeting on zoom at 12:35 this after noon, bye" she ran out the door to go catch her bus. "She is an exact replica of you" I told Derek who's jaw was dropped at our 12 year old. "Ha, your funny" he gave me a kiss before going to work.
