"So what do you think?" Jake asked to the person beside him in curiosity. "About what? Our mission? Well, I feel pretty confident I can beat them down." Brian answered confidently, cracking his knuckles out as the vehicle was getting loaded with assassins. "Holy shit. Where can I get your confidence?"
Snapping out of his confidence, Brian looked at Jake, slightly taken aback. He was expecting him to be joking, but he didn't expect his eyes to be sparkling in admiration. "U-Umm... well," he chuckled, "instead of thinking what can go wrong, think of the positives. Like your fighting skills or uhh, your ability in making strategies. Something like that. Your pretty good at making strategies." He looked away at Jake, trying not to hide his blush from getting idolized by his friend. Stop blushing, you idiot! He had to admit, he liked being seen as a role model for someone. It raises his ego.
"Okay." Brian then heard the sound of scribbling. Looking back at his friend, he saw Jake writing down something. He looked closer to see what he was writing. A list? His eyes glanced on to the top of the paper and it read:
My Abilities That Help Boost My Self-Esteem
"Making strategies... there." He heard Jake whisper. Sighing in disappointment, he tapped Jake on the shoulder. "Hey." He said in a deadly whisper, making Jake sweat in fear. "W-What?" He looked at Jake, his insides churning in fear. Brian quickly wrapped his arm around Jake's neck and started to rub his head harshly with his knuckles. "Who's the smartest one in this vehicle?!" Brian continued twisting his knuckles on Jake's head. "W-What are you doing?! Oww! Oww! Brian!" Jake flailed his arms around, trying to get out of Brian's grip. "Who's the smartest one in this vehicle, Jake?!" He repeated.
"You?! Knock it off!" Brian only got harsher with his knuckle-twisting. "Wrong! Who is it, Jake?!" Jake continued to flail his arms, but to no avail. "I don't know!" Sighing in disappointment again, he let go slowly, causing Jake to greedily inhale air.
"It's you, idiot." Jake stopped breathing harshly, looking at Brian, perplexed. "What?" He asked, puzzlement displayed on his face. He had no idea what Brian was up to. But whatever it is, it's weird. "Ever since we were trainees, you always had low self-esteem that it's quite annoying. I had to compliment you like before just to boost your self-esteem. Look, my point is, you're better than what you think you are. You're smart. And you're quite a looker."
Jake's cheeks turned into dark red at the compliment. Luckily, the lighting in the vehicle didn't make it obvious that he was blushing. "So don't ever think about the negatives. Just think of the positives, that will help your self-esteem even more. Alright?" Jake nodded slowly. That's probably my favorite scolding in my whole life.
"Alright, we're complete. Let's go."
LINE BREAK
"Do you think it's those Saviors we're going against?" Jake asked curiously. "Probably. Where we're going are the Saviors turf. They got the whole neighborhood watching out for them." He lazily replied, knowing they weren't a big deal.
"Let me guess. They're the reason why you're wearing an eye patch now." Brian uncomfortably shifted on his seat, remembering the pain of losing an eye afterward. "Y-Yeah. I was an amateur at fighting back then. But hey! We're trained fighters now, right?" Jake heartily agreed, knowing the Saviors are no match for Brian's fighting abilities.
"Though you haven't told me that story when you were still a member of the Saviors." Jake teases as he shifted closer to Brian. Too close for Brian's liking. "Oh shut up. I just joined so I can gather info about them... so that I can avenge my friend." He whispered awkwardly.
"Avenge your friend? Did something happen?" An awkward silence passed as Brian looked downcast, looking upset. Luckily, Jake took the hint. "Oh... I'm so sorry, man."
"It's alright, man." Brian slightly smiled, but his downcast emotion was visible in his face. Noticing his discomfort, Jake left him be until Brian was feeling alright again.
LINE BREAK
"Do you all have your masks?" His boss, Millard, asked calmly. They all showed their masks, with his in the form of a white fox. "Good. Get in position. Brian, you attack once we use the smoke bombs." Nodding his head, he suited up his armor and hid behind the bushes, seeing Saviors going surrounding the house from all sides.
Once they were all ready, Millard counted, "3, 2, 1." Millard chopped his hand down the air, and all of them threw smoke bombs around the house. Slowly, the air started to turn foggy, giving difficulty for the Saviors.
Stealthily, he got up from his spot and his put his sword out of its sheath as a smirk formed on his face. "I'm ready to roll."
As time passes, the more blood came out. But it was all worth it. Seeing Melanie and Gaden again undeniably shocked him, but it was really worth it.
