She smiled and turned back towards their house, grateful she had nice neighbors. She opened the fence gate and the dropped the pot carefully on the grass. "How much was that?" Rafi asked in curiosity. "$12." She casually replied. The look on Rafi's face was... unreadable, he looked like a poker-face emoji. "Ok." He whispered in a voice that spoke of no emotion.
2 minutes pass with awkward silence, the both of them hoping for someone to speak up. She finally opened her mouth, tired of the silence. "Wh-"
"Do you know why Melanie does that?" Rafi interrupted abruptly. She tilted her head, puzzled. "Do what?" she asked, confused. "You know... at lunch. The food she served on her plate was enough for another person to eat." What he said clicked on her mind. "She said that she's full, so she's gonna eat it later." She replied.
"...Oh." She turned around and got inside. Not having much anything to do in her free time, she went inside the kitchen and grabbed a snack on the counter. She pulled a chair lazily and sat on it, mind wandering free. She continued to eat, her expression looking dead inside.
"Have you heard the news about the Saviors?"
Perking up at the thought in curiosity, she stood up and went to the master bedroom about to search the group on her laptop. She opened the door to find Melanie's hand on her wallet. "Melanie?" She asked, suspicion arising in her voice. Melanie looked at her in shock, quickly pulling her hand away to avoid any suspicion. "Are you... stealing?!" She walked closer, anger getting the better of her.
"N-No! No, I'm not!" Betrayed, she replied. "You're not?! Melanie, I just saw your hand inside my wallet!" Melanie flailed her hands around, trying to deny it. "I... I..." Melanie stammered, not knowing what to say anymore. She looked down at the ground, clenching her fists tightly. Betrayed, she said, "You have an hour to pack your things. Get out." She opened the door and took out her hand, waiting for her to leave. Melanie walked slowly, her breathing slowly becoming erratic. Eventually, she got out and went in her room. She checked inside her wallet, taking out some money for Melanie's paycheck.
Rafi went inside their room, a bit confused about the noises coming from Melanie's bedroom. "What happened?" She looked at him, knowing he had no idea what happened. She breathed for a second, preparing for an explanation. "I just- Melanie was stealing my money." She looked at him, whose face was about to explode in anger.
"She WHAT?!" Rafi shouted, shocked at what she said. "You heard me." She said, hoping for him to get the message. Rafi turned around grabbed the door knob. "I need to knock some sense in her airhead!" She grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back, hard. "You don't need to. I already told her to pack her things." She avoided his gaze, not letting herself show him her emotions.
1 Hour Later
Melanie got out of their gate with a large trolley bag on her hand. She turned around and took one last look at their house, tears leaking out. Knowing she won't ever see that house again, she puckered her lips and walked away wiping her tears.
