Today wasn't the best day. I woke up, sweating as usual. The same tight embrace I get from my sister every morning, wasn't as welcoming as it normally is. Instead..it felt cold, and harsh. I didn't like it. I tried to brush it off as I walked downstairs, but it only got worse.

I walked downstairs, carefully. I had a slight hangover from last night. I was slightly surprised when I saw Janet and Rodney standing in the dining room. They both looked sad, and even Emmy didn't look quite normal. I didn't know what was going on, but I didn't know if I really wanted to. I should've just asked. I was so clueless.

My heart started beating faster when I saw Rodney with that cold look. He always looked cold, but now he was kind of like a, sad cold. Rodney was never sad. I had asked Alyssa what was going on. Nobody would tell me. I got dressed, wearing my normal outfit. We got in the car, and Alyssa went a strange route. I had never been this way before.

I started sweating and getting really anxious. Rodney took note of this, and grabbed my hand. Rodney was suddenly being really nice to me. He used to hate me, like he would stay away from me whenever I went over to Janet's house. What's going on? I can't grip onto my sanity. I began to cry in the backseat, trying to hide it. I failed. Alyssa continued driving as Rodney rubbed my arm and Janet told me everything was going to be ok. I didn't believe them. Alyssa began to slow down and once I checked where we were, my heart dropped.

We were at the cemetery.

I suddenly broke down. Sweating, crying, panicking. I started to black out in the car and I didn't feel good at all. Janet helped me out of the car, and as soon as I stood up, I lost my focus. I fell over, and Alyssa caught me in her arms. Everything was black, I didn't know where I was. My ears were ringing.

What's happening? Where am I? Can anyone hear me? I'm screaming..please help me. I can't hear anything. Why is everything black? Where's mom? Where's mom!?

I woke up, my ears ringing. I had a huge headache. I opened my eyes slowly, and looked around.
"Hello..?" I called out, to see if anyone was around.
I was in the car still. And Alyssa was still with me. She was driving along the road. It got dark quick. I sat up, looking around.
"Alyssa? Where are we?" I asked her.
"Oh! Samantha you're awake?" She responded

"What happened?"

"We showed up to moms funeral, and you collapsed. So instead of having the funeral today, we're having it tomorrow."

"What happened to mom? Was she confirmed dead?"

"Yes, Samantha. She was found dead in the woods. They say she got mauled by something...but I don't think that's what happened." Alyssa started to tear up.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean... it's winter, Samantha. Most predators are hibernating, and if they weren't, they would get frostbite on their pads. The other thing is, mom doesn't go through the woods. She knows how dangerous they are. Nothing she does includes her going into those woods. She didn't get mauled, she was taken."

"No no... she can't be dead, Alyssa. Stop lying, please.."

"I'm not lying Samantha.. I know, I'm upset too. But it happens"

"No.. she wasn't supposed to die yet! She was only 41! She can't be dead!"

I cried in the car all the way home, and when I did get home I ran off to my room and cried for most of the night. She couldn't be dead. But I know she is now.

The next day when I woke up, Alyssa woke me up late. She knew I was stressed and so she gave me some extra sleep. I got ready for the funeral..again. And Alyssa decided it would be better if we didn't bring Rodney and Janet. So we went alone. I was crying the entire time we were there. But I stayed with her until she was completely buried. I told Alyssa that we were going to be the last ones to leave, and that was final.

It was over. Everything was done. She's gone.

No more texts..

No more "Love you"s..

No more mom..

————————————————————————
Hey mom... just wanted to give you a forever night text. I know you're gone, and I know you won't see this. But I still love you. I'll take care of Alyssa, and Emmy. I'll keep them safe. Alyssa's working two jobs, and I'm doing a part time job. Hopefully we'll have enough money to last. I hope you're proud of me mom...Love you..
