"Why am I even following him?"I muttered to myself as I pushed the door of the cafeteria. I looked around and found Henry waving at me. I nervously walked to where he is sitting.
"Here is your food,"he pointed at the tray full of fruits and veggie salad. I took a sit then eyed him with my left brow rising. I do not eat veggie salad during lunch.
"This is not food," I told him. He thinks I am on a diet, like most of the girls. He got to be kidding. I eat like a cow and I do not care if he sees me eating a whole roasted chicken. I am already hungry!
"Really? I thought you are vegetarian,"he took the veggie salad and said, "Well, what do you like to eat then?"
"Leave it to me," I smiled at him and left to buy a real lunch for myself. He did not follow. Instead he patiently waited on his chair. When I returned, Henry could not hide his incredulity. Surely, he's not used to have a girl who eats like a cormorant.
"This is what I call food," I said placing one plate with mashed potato and grilled baby back ribs on it. I also bought desert. I took my sit again beside Henry's.
"I am really hungry!"I blurted out, attacking my food. Henry just stared at me while nibbling the salad. "Is that all you got for lunch?" I asked and he said yes. "Being vegetarian is just good excuse for eating disorder," I said absentmindedly.
"I am not vegetarian," he pointed out. "I thought you really like this food because most of the girls does."
It then registered to me that he's a little disappointed because I neglected his treat. I was such an insensitive and inconsiderate school girl.
"I eat veggie salad during snack time sometimes. I have to keep myself healthy. Next time, you should ask me first." I tried to sound friendly, though it's not really my plan to be friendly.
"I'll keep that in mind."
I nodded then emptied my plate. Henry is there watching me. But his presence never stopped me to be concious about the way I ate. I am all natural around him and this feels great.
"What is your next class?" Henry asked putting his hands inside his jacket's side pockets.
"PE."
"Do you want to ditch today?"he asked again now leaning on my side.
"No."
"Why not?"he raised his brow.
"I just don't want to. Why do you jilt classes all the time?" I raised my brow too.
"I just want too." He smiled devilishly.
I remained silent. I am waiting for a big burp and it is not yet happening. I always do it after I ate.
"Can I ask you something personal?" Henry's voice became melodic. I gave him a nod.
"Have you ever been into a serious relationship before? Or do you have now?"
That was really personal. What answer does he expects? No I have not ever since. Or no I have not and will not. I chose the first one.
"No I have not. Ever since."
His face brightened up. Like he just saw Santa riding with his reindeers and presents. He is so transparent.
"Aren't you asking me the same question?"
"Do I have to?" I already know his answer, so I don't need to ask. He has been with girls since he is one of the famous boys. Of course he had been with girls and relationships.
"Are you not interested to know?"he inquired. I stayed in my silent mode. If he wanted to tell he'll tell me.
"Okay, I will take that as a no."
Great! What a hypocrite I am! My heart wanted to know if he's been in a relationship and how many girls he had been. I've expected him to be honest, like I was.
Ugh!
"I have something to confess though." Henry continued talking. His long introduction before his confession is making me anxious. My mind is floating like a free gas. I wanted to tell him to skip the introduction. But he is really eager to make me believe to whatever he is gonna confess. I just hope it is not about what I am thinking right now. Suddenly, Henry grabbed my hand, sending warmth to my frezzing skin.
Current. I did feel it and maybe he felt it too as his eyes locked into mine for a couple of seconds.
"Henry, what are you doing?" I tried to pull my hand when my wits came back to life but he's holding it very tightly. Some students closer to our table are curiosly staring at us now. My cheeks burned suddenly.
"Stay calm, please,"he whispered. His husky voice is tinkling my ears. And my hearbeat is rough now.
"I know this is unbelievable, but I feel different when I am with you. I am in my most peace of mind whenever I see you." Henry's eyes never leave mine. I have to look down to avoid his gaze. I do not want to see what he is trying to tell me. I am not ready for any type of relationship. He is my ideal kind of guy but a relationship is not want I wanted right now.
"Maib, I am certain that it is you whom I wanted all along. I have been dreaming about you since I was a kid. Now that I have found you, I won't never let you go."
Oh crap! Bloody hell! This is going to be the biggest problem in my seventeen years of existence! I like Henry but I can't let him get inside my life. He is mortal for pete's sake! I am in big trouble, my mind screamed. At that thought, my burp came through.
