"Maib! It's time for breakfast!" That was my auntie Beth. She always shouts every morning but I am used to it. What else is new in my seventeen years of living with her?
Nothing. My life is a routine. Everyday, I wake up, get dress for school and eat breakfast. Then, after school, I have to be at home by five pm. Clearly, my life is not a life at all!
"Maib!"aunt's voice is getting higher. I wonder if our neighbor is doing something about her behavior. She's a bothersome, not just her screaming but worse, her attitude. She never gives a shit if our neighbors like us or not. All aunt Beth cares is 'us'.
"I'm coming," I shouted back. After getting my backpack I stormed into the kitchen, took a seat and eat breakfast with gusto. My oldmaid aunt loves it, watching me emptying my plate.
"I am leaving for school now."
My aunt nodded. "Be careful, honey."
"I am careful," I replied,rolling my eyes.
"There are many bad guys out there,Maib." And here we are again. I better kicked my butt outta here!
Seriously, who are these bad guys she's referring to? There are just four hundred and twelve students in my school. I have memorized their faces for five years being in the same school every year. And in the entire town? A thousand. Everybody knows everybody here. So, who are these bad guys?
"Stay away from trouble, honey," my aunt said with a wide smile on her face.
Urgh!
"Bye!" I really have to go! "See you later!"
I took my time walking to my school. Freshmen students were behind me talking about their crushes. I smiled at the thought of crushes. I do have one since I have set my eyes on his beautiful face. That was during my ninth grade. And it did not fade away until now. Well, Henry Jackson is really handsome. Every girl in my school wants to be his girlfriend. Even my female teachers admire him. But nobody knows I have this huge crush on him. Even my bestfriend Cass.
By the time I have stepped my feet inside the gate campus, Cass is already waiting.
"You're slow today,"my friend greeted me. Cass is really pretty. She has blonde hair and big boobs and slender body. Most men are attractive to her because of her rich frontal view, obviously. But Cass is not that flirty. She's more a studious type. We are friends since we were eleventh grader.
"Good morning too, Cass!" I gave her my smile.
"How was your weekend?"she asked while we are on our way to our first class, which is Literature.
"Nightmarish!" I whispered. I saw Cass's eyes rolled.
"Again?" She paused for while then looked at me and continue walking.
"Yeah."
"And another nightmare but just similar to the old ones?"
"Sort of but they're just in my unconcious head. There's nothing to worry." I have to give her my word so she will stop asking. I knew those dreams were not just ordinary dreams. After days, it will happen.
I have learnt about my curse during my sixteenth birthday. I denied everything for eight months. But I accepted the curse, eventually. Of course, I never told my secret to my bestfriend. And it is better this way.
"Tell me about it. Maybe it will help you forget." She sounded concern and I like it.
I smiled to my bestfriend. She is really nice to me and she cares. We entered into our first class this morning and seated at the back. Our teacher is not yet around.
"Someone died in my dream." I gave her the summary of my dream so she will get the picture right away. For her it was just a dream. But for me, it is real. And someone will really die after days. I just don't know when.
"That's horrible! Do you recognize the man's face?" Cass shifted her position so she could see my face. I nodded. I am certain about my answer.
"Who? Does he lives here?"
I nodded again. Her eyes widened in horror.
"Stop the suspense, will you! Just tell me." She is now leaning on me.
I took a deep breathe and open my mouth. "It was just a dream, Cass." I will never tell her that Darcy Garcia, our literature teacher, will die after days. That will make her freak out! Especially, if the right time will come.
