The Past Comes Back To Haunt

{Chapter Start}

Sonic was currently running through Green Hill Zone once again. He had lost count of how many times he had run through these checkerboarded loops. He was busy thinking, and he learned a long time ago that Green Hill was the best place for him to think.

It had been months since Sonic stopped Robotnik's, who now calls himself Eggman, plan to unleash Dark Gaia and harness it's power to rebuild the world of Mobius into his own image, and the doctor had been oddly quiet. There hadn't been any attacks, nor any word of mouth of Eggman sightings.

Sonic looked to the watch Tails had made for him. Honestly, the blue hedgehog could barely understand the extra features that his pseudo-little brother/best friend had given it, but the two-tailed fox had done it because he was getting sick of Sonic showing up late for any meetings the two set up. For the Fastest Mobian Alive, Sonic had a bit of a habit of showing up late.

Seeing that he was gonna be late, and not wanting to get a lecture from Tails, Amy, or Knuckles, Sonic turned in the direction to Tails' Workshop in the Mystic Ruins, and began to blast off in that direction.

The first thing that came into Sonic's view was a familiar looking bike owned by a certain black hedgehog. Wondering why the faker was at Tails' place, Sonic opened the door, and nearly ran into the defected Eggman creation, E-123 Omega, "Hey, what the heck Omega?!" Sonic shouted in surprise, "Sonic! Something big is going on!" Sonic looked around the workshop, and saw that it wasn't just Shadow and Omega there. It seemed almost everyone he knew was there, the Chaotix, Cream and Cheese, Rouge, Shadow, Amy, and even Big, of all people. Most of them looked either serious or worried, "Tails, what's wrong?" "Eggman issued some kinda ransom!" "What?!" Sonic's eyes widened, he knew Eggman was an incredibly bad guy, one of worst out there, but even he wouldn't go that far, would he? "Take a look at this." Shadow handed Sonic a hologram letter, before an image of Eggman appeared, "Well Sonic, my spiky old nemesis. For years we have played this silly game, but I've finally found what I need to break this silly little loop! You remember my old Roboticizer, don't you? I've been making a few upgrades, and I'd like to issue an ultimatum. Bring me the seven Chaos Emeralds and surrender yourself, or my three prisoners will be my first victims! And don't bother trying any rescue plans, I see one robot of mine out of place and they'll be going into my Neo-Roboticizer!" Eggman let out a hearty evil laugh, making Sonic frown, but what he saw next sent the blue Mobian over the edge, "And just to add that extra pep in your step, how about I show you one of them? I'm sure you'll appreciate it. METAL SONIC, BRING HER IN!" Sonic's metal doppelganger walked into sight holding a tall  dark purple hedgehog with spines very similar to Sonic, only her's went down to the bottom of her spine. She was struggling in Metal Sonic's grip while Eggman grinned, "So Sonic, what'll it be? The Chaos Emeralds and your life, or they become the newest addition to my empire. I suggest you act fast, hedgehog!" "Sonic, whatever you do, don't listen to him! Don't worry about us, just stop him!" Metal began to drag her away as Eggman let out another hearty evil laugh. That was the last thing heard before the message shut off, as everyone stood in silence. No one could see the expression on Sonic's face, but they could see his hand shaking, whether that was in some type of nervousness at the situation or anger at Eggman for going that far, no one could tell.

"Tails," the two tailed fox flinched at the cold anger in his best friend's voice, "When did you get this?" Tails was somewhat shaking, he could practically feel Sonic's anger in the air, as a dark blue aura surrounded the blue hedgehog, "I wont ask again Tails, when?!" everyone flinched as Tails was about to answer, before Shadow did it for him, "Metal Sonic gave it to us, after he tore through G.U.N HQ. It was no more then a few hours ago." Sonic let out a sigh before nodding and leaving to the door without another word.

As Sonic left the workshop, he was stopped by the Ultimate Lifeform, "And where do you think you're going?" Sonic looked back with a glare directed at Shadow as the dark blue aura grew, "Where does it look like? I'm gonna make Eggman wish he was never born." "That will have to wait hedgehog. G.U.N has several questions for you. One of them being how Aleena Bernadette Hedgehog, the QUEEN of Mobotropolis knows you by name, and why it seems like you're close to her." Sonic's dark blue aura grew intensely, and faster than even Shadow could blink, Sonic tossed him over his shoulder and into a nearby tree before shoving his elbow into his chest. The black hedgehog gasped in pain, before getting a look at Sonic, seeing his blue fur & quills had become a far darker blue, and he was wearing an intense glare, "I'm only gonna say this one Shadow, stay out of my way!" with that, Sonic let Shadow drop to the ground, the Ultimate Lifeform clenching his stomach in pain, before he sped off to find Eggman. The only thing on Sonic's mind was saving his mother, and hoping she was the only one Eggman managed to get his grimy hands on.

{Egg Carrier 2; Prison Deck}

Sonia was annoyed, and afraid, but mostly annoyed. She, her brother Manic, and their mother had been kidnapped. After the "final" battle with Robotnik, they thought they had seen the last of him for a long time. Then after nearly 10 years of silence, the castle of Mobotropolis was bombed and they were kidnapped by a robot that seemed to look like their missing brother. Now they were locked in a cell without their medallions, not that they would do much without their powers, and Robotnik had taken their mother to make a ransom.

Manic was currently looking for a way to break out of their cell, and was failing. His old tricks, and even a few new ones he picked up, were not making any progress. After his final attempt, the green hedgehog sighed before taking a seat on the ground, "Guess Buttnik stepped up his security game. I can't see a way to break us out." Sonia sighed as well, frustrated at their situation, "So what? We just wait until Sonic gets here and magically saves the day?!" "I don't know sis. I really don't know." the cell the two were stuck in was fairly big, big enough to house three beds at least.

The door to the cell was opened suddenly, before the hedgehog siblings saw their mother tossed into their cell by the Sonic robot, the two making a B-line to help her up, "Mom, are you okay?!" Aleena picked herself up to comfort her children, "Oh rest assured Queen Aleena. You and your children will not be harmed anymore than necessary. Once that blue rat surrenders himself and the seven Chaos Emeralds to me, I will gladly let you three go." Aleena glared at Eggman, who held a smug grin, "And you believe Sonic will just surrender so easily?" "If he wishes to see you three safe and unharmed, he will. If there is one thing I've from battling that blue pest, it's that those he cares for are not only his greatest strength, but also his biggest weakness." with that, Eggman and Metal Sonic left the hedgehog family, with the three glaring at the doctor until he was no longer in sight. Manic sighed once more, "You think Sonic will actually give Robotnik those Chaos Emeralds?" "I don't know Manic, I just hope he doesn't do anything to put himself in danger."

As the three sat in silence, that silence was broken by the sound of an explosion and the shaking of the Egg Carrier 2, making the royal family wonder what was happening.
