Peril smiled to herself. She was sitting directly across the room from Clay. They'd talked way more since that first fly... He was having an argument with one of the new MudWing dragonets. He was trying to warn the MudWing dragonet not to eat that red berry RainWing fruit. The dragonet looked skeptical.

The dragonet was complaining and saying things like, "Then why is it herreee?" And things like, "But I'm starving!"

Peril wondered if she should go and burn that MudWing's tail, and wipe that smug, protesting expression off the dragonet's face to teach them a lesson about disagreeing with Clay...No! NO! Clay would say that is a horrible idea and NOT to hurt the MudWing. She inwardly slapped herself crossly.

Peril was pleased with herself that she didn't go and attack the very stubborn MudWing. The MudWing dragonet eventually decided to not eat the fruit, which made Peril more pleased. With her wings slightly outward, she walked to Clay, holding her head high, and smiling.

"Clay!" She said, a bit awkwardly. Oh no, did I say that a little too creepily, maybe I should stop, this is a horrible idea. MISSON ABORT. But...flying with Clay was so fun...

Clay turned to her with a cute smile. Too late.

"Yes Peril?" Peril's heart was doing backflips in her chest.

"Um...er...well..." Peril stuttered. She spotted Turtle, and he was pointing to his mouth and mouthing, 'Ask him.' Peril decided to be brave, but had to throw that entire thought away as Clay of course decided to smile, putting her heart in for another loop.

"Well...Iwaswonderingerifyou'dliketogoflyingwithmeafterlunchifthatisokaywithyou." Peril said in a rush.

"Hm? What did you say?" Clay asked. Peril turned to Turtle who slammed his head on his talons. Peril felt heat rising to her cheeks. Am I embarrassed? She wondered. This feeling was new to her. She never had a reason to feel awkward...okay maybe a few reasons...but still! Never embarrassed. Enough rambling.

I can do this. Peril took a deep breath.

"Clay, I was wondering if you'd like to come flying with me again...after lunch...if that's okay with you...and if you don't that's perfectly fine and you don't have to I don't min-"

Clay cut her off, taking her talons in his, making her blush.

"Peril, I'd love to go flying with you!"

Peril blushed, beaming. "R-really?"

Clay nodded, smiling that cute, adorable smile. "I'd love to go flying with you, after lunch maybe? It's almost over."

Peril nodded vigorously.

"Y-yes?" She said, a bit surprised that Clay would like to go flying with her. . Clay laughed.

"Of course I will, Peril." He said with a smile. Peril smiled back, happiness bubbling inside her.

They sat together throughout the entire lunch period. They talked and laughed and made funny jokes. It was one of the best moments of Peril's life.

"Ready?" Clay asked, smiling at her. Peril nodded, lifting her large, flaming, hot wings and flying up and up. She could hear Clay's wingbeats below her as she flew away from Jade Mountain. She landed a little ways from the Sky Kingdom and saw Clay a little bit behind her. He landed, panting a bit, his wings drooping a little in exhaustion. Oh, MudWings aren't used to flying as much as SkyWings, I guess. Peril thought with a frown.

"We can stop and go back if you'd prefer." Peril said quickly, not wanting to seem selfish.

She hoped he'd want to stay-she wanted to spend as much time as possible with her crush.

Clay shook his head and turned to smile at her. "I'm alright," He reassured her, still smiling. Peril wondered if deep down he actually wanted to go back and was just saying no because he didn't want to be rude. No dragon could possibly smile that long. At least, no dragon that Peril had seen.

No dragon, besides Queen Scarlet, and only because Peril did things the way she wanted, ever even looked at her like she was something.

"Sooo-" Peril said awkwardly. Clay shifted his wings a little to brush hers. Peril stared down at his wings. After awhile Clay tore his away, a bit quickly, the heat becoming too much to bear. Peril thought he was mad at her for a second. Clay sat down, so Peril sat down as well.

"How are you?" Clay asked.

"Great!" Peril said happily. "Winter sends me letters sometimes, and Qibli comes to see me once in awhile. Moon also sends me letters and comes to visit. Kinkajou always comes in person. Turtle spends the most time with me though." She flexed her talons excitedly. The grass underneath her talons burning and dying. "I have real friends Clay! Can you believe it?!"

Clay laughed. "Of course I can! You're an amazing dragon, Peril. Who wouldn't want to be your friend?" Tsunami. Glory. Icicle. Anemone. Pike. Every IceWing I've met. She still remembered the glares Tsunami would shoot at her, still shoots at her, full of distrust. Tsunami didn't want her at Jade Mountain, and Queen Ruby only just started not hating her. Peril couldn't blame her though-She had killed so many innocent dragons.

Clay rested a talon on her shoulder. "You need to put what everyone else thinks behind you. You can't change the past."

Peril looked up at him and smiled sadly. Clay's talons brushed hers slightly. Peril twined her tail with his carefully, not wanting to burn him. Clay didn't pull away. Well, he didn't pull away until his tail started to burn.

She liked that she could touch him without worrying about him dying. It was rather....calming.

Her entire life she had been used to kill. But now she didn't have to hurt anyone anymore. Well, as long as they didn't hurt Clay, that is.

Peril gave him an apologetic smile. "Sorry." She said in a hurry. "It's not your fault." Clay said reassuringly with a smile.

"Clay?" She asked quietly. He blinked at her.

"Yes?"

Peril sighed.

"Am I a monster?"
