Cricket almost cried. Almost. Seeing Blue, it was just too much. She hadn't seen the azure blue of his blue-violet scales in 2 weeks. Two WEEKS. And now, seeing his eyes white, the clear symbol of a dragon controlled by the other mind. He was skinny. Too skinny. She could see his ribs. Dried blood covered his body. Cuts and scratches COVERED his beautiful body. Cricket held a talon over her mouth in shock. Surely no dragon could get like this in only 2 weeks? Two weeks that felt like a lifetime she thought to herself. Luna looked shocked as well. Blue whipped around, growling threateningly at Cricket. Cricket was afraid, afraid that he would hurt her. Sundew held the healing root in her talons so tightly Cricket thought it'd break.
Sundew's face was twisted in such rage and anger, even Willow didn't try to be near her. She was obviously upset. Upset that Blue, her friend, (Cricket knew she'd never admit it) looked like this. "On the count of three." Sundew growled.
"One."
"Two." She tried not to think about what Blue must have had gone through.
"Three."
Sundew flew at Blue. He whipped around, finding strength in his weak form. Cricket darted in. The HiveWing, along with Luna and Swordtail, worked to pin the enraged flame-silk down.
"Don't let him burn you!"
Sundew yelled. She pushed his mouth open, and shoved the roots down his throat. The choking sound made Cricket flinch, as Blue collapsed.
"Help me move him," Sundew snapped.
Together, Sundew and Swordtail picked up the unconscious Blue and carried him to the LeafWing camp. The LeafWings gasped as Sundew brought Blue to a healer's nest.
"When he wakes up he'll be hungry. Cause all of you are idiots and will die from the Venus Flytraps," She shot Swordtail a glare, "I'll get some fruit." Sundew rolled her eyes.
Bumblebee woke up from all the commotion. They'd left her there cause they hadn't known what Blue was capable of.
"YUMS!" She demanded.
"Sundew's getting some fruit," Cricket explained to the dragonet.
Bumblebee let out a huff. "Bwut iwm HUNGWY!"
She threw herself on the ground and was about to throw a fit when Willow said
"How about I show you this really cool game, and we can play with the other dragonets?"
Bumblebee nodded vigorously.
"Come on then."
Willow smiled. Cricket shot her a grateful glance and mouthed, thank you, Willow nodded and led Bumblebee out of the cave. Cricket turned her attention back to Blue, whose face was twisted in pain. Cricket felt a huge overwhelming wave of pity, sadness, anger, and regret. She went to his side, wrapped her wings around him, whose face seemed to relax, and rested her head on his back with a sigh.
She breathed in his scent of fried bananas, and closed her eyes. Her tail seemed to automatically twine with his as she laid next to him. She fell asleep. She awoke with a yawn. A huge pile of fruit was in front of her. A mixture of watermelon, peaches, pears, grapefruit, strawberries, honey, water flasks, and bananas. She blinked twice and yawned again. Everyone was back in the cave. Bumblebee was determinedly munching on a banana, her little face twisted with determination. Cricket held back a chuckle.
Blue stirred. Everyone's eyes were on him. Cricket was up in a flash. She wanted him to be able to reunite with his sister. Blue opened his eyes warily.
"Luna?"
He said, not seeming to trust his voice. Luna barreled into him and they laughed.
"You look well," Blue laughed.
"Can't say the same about you," Luna said with a frown.
Blue hugged his sister tightly.
"I missed you so much," He said, tears starting to fall down his face.
"Aww don't cry," Luna said.
"You big sap." Luna said affectionately, butting her head with his. He pulled away from her. His eyes flashing around the room, seeming to be looking for someone.
"Swordtail," He said, happy, but a little disappointed. Swordtail rolled his eyes, seeming to detect his friend's disappointment.
"She's over there," He said, pointing to Cricket with a sigh. Cricket looked up.
"You're awake," She said with a shy smile, a soft blush coating her cheeks.
Blue smiled at her, and Cricket felt her heart explode. They nervously went to each other, like magnets attracting each other. They folded into a hug and Cricket began to sob, repeating over and over
"I'm so sorry."
Blue could feel his heart start to crack.
"It's not your fault," He said gently, cupping her head in his talons to wipe away the tears with a comforting smile. His talons were warm against her cheek and she was instantly comforted. To his embarrassment, Blue felt his stomach growl and Cricket giggled.
"You should probably eat."
He nodded, an adorable blush coating his already perfect cheeks. They went to the pile and Blue hungrily ate all he could, swallowing in a single gulp. He gulped down several water flasks, and finally when he was satisfied he looked at Cricket. Guilt and embarrassment clouded his eyes.
His light blush turned darker as he stared at his talons. Cricket smiled and wrapped her wings around him. Blue, surprised, wrapped his own azure wings around this beautiful dragon. They were quiet for awhile.
Their friends had left the room, feeling awkward staying in the same room with these love birds, but were eavesdropping outside, their ears eagerly pressed against the walls to hear anything interesting. Cricket looked into Blue's eyes.
"Blue," she said.
"Yes?" He asked her.
"I missed you, a lot."
"I missed you too," Blue said back, his talons softly caressing Cricket's cheeks. Cricket leaned into his talons, letting out a sigh.
"Cricket," he said gently, saying her name as if it were the most sacred, holy thing he knew.
"Yes?" She said, and they stared into each other's eyes.
"Cricket I...I love you, I've loved you since the moment we met."
His breath caught in his throat. He shut his eyes preparing for rejection, but none came. He nervously opened his eyes. Cricket's jaw was dropped, and her cheeks were flaming red. She seemed frozen in time.
"Cricket?" Blue questioned, waving a talon in front of her face.
"Cricket? Are you okay?" He asked in alarm.
She snapped back to reality and didn't say anything. She leaned in and crushed her snout to his. The whole world seemed to take a deep breath in that moment.
Cricket pulled away from him, smiling shyly and then said, "I love you too." Blue wrapped his wings around her and they breathed in each other's scents.
"I could stay here forever," Cricket mumbled.
Forever
I like that, Cricket thought with a smile.
