Ryunosuke Akutagawa had been sitting outside on the steps of a building when he had received word that Osamu Dazai, his mentor, had summoned him. It was about 2 in the morning. He got up immediately, not wanting to keep his mentor waiting, and dashed towards the location that their meeting was scheduled. Only then, when he had arrived, did he realize that this wasn't anything special. This was just normal everyday training. Dazai was standing at the opposite end of the training ground waiting for him. He smiled as he saw his subordinate enter.
It was rare for Dazai to smile at him. Akutagawa was a bit confused as to why he would smile at him. He checked his phone and saw that he had almost been one minute late. He sighed, put his phone away, and took his usual place in front of his trainer. Their training sessions were bland but grueling. Each one left Akutagawa either on the ground and panting from loss of breath or against a wall, after Dazai had slapped him so hard he was thrown back. There were even times where Akutagawa was to tired to even get up. Nevertheless, Akutagawa came back for each session, not wanting to disappoint his mentor. Dazai, even if he was the way he was, was one of the closest people to him.
Akutagawa, who was standing in front of Dazai, summoned his ability, Rashomon and prepared to attack. To him, the outcome was predictable, since Dazai always stopped him, no matter what he did. But even so, the young male still carried on, with a confident look in his eyes as he stared down his mentor. Dazai nodded to him and he set off, running at Dazai as fast as he could. He could hear his heart beating. He was getting closer... closer,,, almost there... only one more lunge and he'd hit Dazai.... and then he saw the world suddenly tilt upwards.
Akutagawa came crashing against a wall from a hard upper-cut punch from Dazai. He sat up shakily and stared at his mentor, both shocked and saddened. That was the closest he had ever gotten to Dazai, in all his years of training. He looked down at the ground as his mentor stood in front of him, shaking his head heavily. Dazai was obviously displeased, as he always was when Akutagawa failed. This, kind of, became a new normal for him. Dazai made a "tsk" sound as he watched his subordinate hang his head low.
"Get up. What are you? Sand in a wind storm? I told you hundreds of times, the Mafia only accepts the strong. You have to get up and keep fighting. Did I recruit you for nothing?" He asked harshly. Akutagawa hated it when Dazai repeated himself. It made him feel as though Dazai thought he couldn't listen and that Dazai thoughts that it wasn't already in his head. Akutagawa thought that Dazai was doing this just to make an example of each defeat but Dazai was doing much more; he was giving Akutagawa a reason to try and be angry at him. Akutagawa, in turn, would let this anger fuel his drive to beat him. He hoped that one day, Akutagawa, and all his anger, would become an unstoppable force to beat him, a strong individual.
Akutagawa got up shakily and stared down Dazai again. "No sir!" he shouted firmly and held his head up. Remnants of his confident grin were still on his face; his eyes shone with their wanting to beat him; his lips quivered with the energy to yell as he attacked. Dazai smiled at his answer.
"Good now.. where's that fighting spirit you have Akutagawa? Come at me again, try harder, focus," Dazai said as he stood still once again, awaiting Akutagawa's attack. Akutagawa once more summoned Rashomon and readied himself. "This is it. I'll beat him this time around. Just focus" Akutagawa thought to himself as he got ready. He then, again, started at Dazai with a run. Dazai, being his predicting self, figured that his subordinate would attack head on again. Dazai extended his hand to block the attack and throw Akutagawa back once more but his hand was suddenly wrapped up in Rashomon. Dazai looked down in surprise to find part of Rashomon had sprung from the ground and had captured him.
