"What was with me?"
That thought ran through Akutagawa's head as he walked through the city. He had woken up that morning all fine but for some reason he kept thinking about Atsushi Nakajima. He was making his way to Atsushi's apartment. He knocked on the door softly and waited.
"Coming! Just a minute" Atsushi called out to whoever stood there, not knowing who he would see on his door step. Akutagawa fidgeted with his hands while he waited. "Was this really worth it?" "I'll make a fool of myself if he rejects me." Those thoughts kept running through his head. Soon, he found the door before him was opening.
In the doorway stood Atsushi Nakajima, wearing his usual clothing. Atsushi's eyes widened when he saw who was at the door and he backed up. Akutagawa stood there in his overcoat and usual attire, looking as vicious as ever.
"Akutagawa!' Atsushi said in surprise. "What a surprise seeing you here! Come in," he said nervously, beckoning the older male to come inside his apartment. Akutagawa, not wanting to be rude, came into the small living space and sat down on a chair he'd found.
"Sorry it's a bit messed up. Agency paperwork," Atsushi said smiling slightly as Akutagawa looked around. There were numerous piles of papers on the floor, containing files of various cases. Akutagawa remembered some of those cases. He'd been working with Atsushi and the Agency for a few years now. Actually the whole Mafia had been working with the Agency for a few years.
"It's fine Jinko...." he said quietly. Atsushi looked at him, now noting the change in his voice and mood. Akutagawa was looking at the ground now, seeming slightly nervous. Atsushi was a bit confused on why he looked so nervous so he went over and sat next to him. Akutagawa was a bit shocked by the movement but allowed the grey haired male to sit near to him. Strangely, the Mafia's Black Dog felt.. happy with this.
"Hey.. are you ok Akutagawa...?" Atsushi asked, wondering why Akutagawa looked so sad. Akutagawa sighed and slumped his shoulders and shook his head. Atsushi put a hand on the male's shoulder in an attempt to sooth him, the reason for this doing unknown to Atsushi. Even so, he tried to comfort him. "Tell me what's wrong.."
Akutagawa shuddered when he felt the other male touch him. He relaxed, though, after a few seconds. He usually didn't let anyone touch him, Mafioso or not. For some reason, though, he allowed Atsushi to lay a hand on him. Akutagawa felt.. at peace with it. He felt warm. Akutagawa took a breath before finally speaking again.
"Is... is it wrong to want something... from someone you should hate?" he asked quietly. Atsushi paused for a moment, taking his hand off of Akutagawa. He sighed and shook his head. Akutagawa looked at him, a bit confused at his answer.
"It's not wrong to want something like that Akutagawa.. take it from me.. I know full well what that feel like.. Heck I've had the feeling for years now but I never got it out to that.. thing..." Akutagawa nodded at his answer and looked at the ground again.
"Is it wrong.. if that thing.. is a person...of the same gender....?" he asked, this time more unsurely. Atsushi shook his head.
"No of course not Akutagawa. Why would you think that?" he asked in a soothing tone. Akutagawa looked at the ground and sighed.
"I.. saw something online that said it was wrong..." he said sadly. Atsushi pat him on the shoulder, his hand making the older male feel warm.
"No Aku. It's not wrong to be who you are. Don't ever let anything or anyone tell you to stop being you," He said. Atsushi's words seemed to soothe Akutagawa. The black haired male then straightened his posture and looked at the grey haired one sitting next to him. "Jinko..?" he asked in a questioning tone.
Atsushi nodded for him to continue. Akutagawa took a breath before quickly asking.
"Jinko... is it wrong if that person is you?" Atsushi sat there with the black and white haired Mafioso, almost getting lost in his thoughts. What Akutagawa had just said, it confused him. it was like someone was dragging him around without his consent. He didn't understand.. at first. Soon the Mafioso's words registered in his mind. He then felt himself become warm all over. Atsushi's heart seemed to pick up it's pace. The gray haired male didn't know what had become of him.
"Oh.. never mind.. I think saying that was.. a bit.. out of.... person for me.. i'm sorry.. Jinko.. if you are creeped out.." The black haired Mafioso got up to leave. He was about to head to the door when he felt a warm hand grasp his wrist. He turned and saw Atsushi, face flushed and eyes pleading, seemingly begging for him not to leave. Atsushi tugged at Akutagawa to sit down so the older male sat down again, reclaiming the spot next to Atsushi. They sat there in the silence for a few moments.
"No Akutagawa.." he began. "I'm.. actually not creeped out at all.. Honestly... I didn't know how to react.. I mean... someone.. as strong as you.. liking a weakling like me...? I can't understand why you'd like me..." he said, seeming to be apologizing. Akutagawa let out a chuckle and then a laugh.
"Me? Stronger than you? We all know who's the stronger one.. You. Dazai-san surely thinks that.." he said sadly. Atsushi shook his head.
"Akutagawa being strong doesn't always mean gaining Dazai's approval. Being strong can mean different things to different people, you know?" Akutagawa nodded to Atsushi's answer. Asushi continued.
"Others will think you are strong in different ways. For instance i think you are strong for coming here and speaking your feelings. Chuuya thinks you are strong with using your ability. Higuchi thinks you are strong because she is impressed by you and wants your approval. See many think you are strong. Dazai's thought on you doesn't always mean the bottom line of everything."
Akutagawa took what Atsushi said to heart and nodded. "Thank you Jinko.. You.. really helped me out today..." he got up to leave a second time. Atsushi got up as well and walked him to the door. The two stood there, slightly smiling for a bit. Akutagawa then started stepping out. Before the older one left Atsushi pulled Akutagawa back and kissed him, letting go shortly after.
"Just saying Akutagawa.. I like you too. This has been wonderful chatting with you." Atsushi smiled. Akutagawa smiled back and started walking off.
"Maybe we can hang out again sometime Jinko," he called over his shoulder. Atsushi smiled.
"Yeah maybe."
The two then went back to their day, feeling happy.More happy than they had in years. Something about their talk just seemed to make them both feel warm inside.
