Soda and Darry had stopped by to see us for just a minute, thanking Dally for taking care of Pony and asking me about my leg, but they had to leave once Soda decided he wanted to see and touch it. I was laughing about it, as was Dally, but Darry was slightly embarrassed so he ushered Soda out of the room, apologizing as he closed the door. I laughed harder as I listened to the two of them bickering as they went down the hallway, probably to find Pony, seeing as he was probably still here with Johnny. A comfortable silence fills the room, Dally's hand resting on my thigh as we both just sit there, him in the bed and I in my chair, neither of us really looking at anything as we stare into space; our minds blank and enjoying each other's presence.
It stays that way for a few minutes, before the door to the room opens and Pony and Two-Bit walk in, causing Dally to quickly remove his hand, leaving my skin screaming from the loss of its warmth. I turn and look at him with a frown and he ignores it, looking at the two boys who had walked through the door a few seconds prior.
"Darry and Soda are talking to the cops and news reporters, trying to keep them out of this room so we can talk." Pony says, glancing nervously at the door before looking back at the two of us.
"Carly, hi! I wasn't expecting to see you in here, but this makes our lives a lot easier because we were going to go and visit you after we visited with Dally but since you're here, we don't have to!"
I laugh, looking at the two.
"Well, I'm glad I could make your life easier, it's my pleasure to do business with you guys." I say, causing everyone else to laugh, which went as quickly as it came.
"How's Johnny doing, man?" Dally asks, looking at the two of them like he wanted good news, but we both knew that the news was going to be anything but that.
"Not good. We went by to see him and he wanted a book, Dal. A book out of all things." Two says, looking at us with an extremely sad face as he told us what Johnny had said.
Dally shakes his head, and I can't help but smile at how attractive he looked doing it.
"Of course he'd want a book," he says smiling a little bit, but then turns serious again, looking over at Two-Bit.
"Hey, Two man, you got that switchblade on you? You know, your special one?"
Two-Bit rummages around in his pockets before pulling a blade out and holding it up.
"This one?"
Dallas nods. "You think I can borrow it for a few days? I mean, you shouldn't need it tonight, right?"
Two thinks about it for a second before handing it over to Dally before giving him a stern look.
"I expect it back as soon as you're done with it." He's quiet for a moment before he turns to me.
"You wanna go see Johnny, Carly?"
I'm at the door in a minute,
"yes."
"Alright, lets go."
I turn to Dal,
"I'll be back."
He nods, looking at the knife, and as the other two boys wheel me out of the room, I can't help but wonder why he needed the knife so desperately.
