We are now at Johnny's hospital room and it's completely clear that he was the one who got the worst of it all. His whole body was burnt, with his hand being completely burnt, shriveled almost all the way, like a snail on the sidewalk on a hot summer's day. He couldn't even move without being in pain, and even though I have Dally now, I couldn't help but think that I wish it was me in that position, instead of Johnny. He's sixteen and has had the roughest life out of almost all of us. His parents beat him and he was also beat by the socs. He's had to kill someone to protect his best friend, and then when he was trying to do something right, saving multiple kids from dying in a fire, he was given a lifetime full of pain, if he even lives that long.
We were only in there for a few minutes, me sitting towards the side where I can still see Johnny, but he couldn't see me because I don't want him to think that it was all his fault when the nurse comes in.
"Johnny, your mom's here. She wants to see you."
Almost immediately, he replies,
"no, I don't wanna see her. Tell her to go away, tell her I'm dead, tell her anything, I don't care. I don't want to see her."
"But Johnny, she's your mother. Surely you wanna see her."
Johnny had started to cry so I moved in front of the nurse,
"he said he doesn't want to see her, and there's a perfectly logical reason about it too, so stop harassing him about it. Can't you see that he's in pain? Leave him be."
Right when I finished talking, he fell unconscious once more, and the nurse pushed past me, quickly checking his vitals and ejecting something into his IV, before turning around and pushing us all out of the room, claiming that we had made him upset and we wouldn't be seeing him anytime soon because of it.
The door closed behind us, and as we turn around, we almost immediately bump into Johnny's mom.
"You hoodrats! You've poisoned my son to where he doesn't want to see me anymore! He'd rather see these hoodlums instead of his own mother!"
"No offense ma'am but.... actually nevermind this is offensive: you don't deserve to see him after all you've done to him. You deserve to be the one laying in that bed in pain, instead of Johnny. You deserve it all," I say, glaring at the woman who shouldn't have the honor of being called a mother.
Said woman turns to me in a wave of fury, and before I was able to move, she slaps me across the face.
"You-"
But before she can continue, Two-Bit stands in front of me protectively, before looking at Johnny's mother,
"I hope you burn," he says before turning around and wheeling me away from her with Pony trailing behind us like a lost little puppy.
"You deserve every bit of pain you've inflicted upon you right now, little girl! And I'll make sure that you get it, and you'll be the one in the hospital bed hanging onto life. Mark my words, I'll get you one day!"
At that she's forced away, and the three of us are left in the hallway stunned by her words, before we brush them off, going back into the room that Dally is in, waiting for us to return and tell him how Johnny is doing.
