“How was your session with the therapist?” Montserrat asked looking at her son, she didn’t know what Isla had done to get Gerard to agree to go and speak to someone but she was grateful for whatever had happened.

It had been a surprise when Gerard had announced that he was going to see someone and Montserrat was hopeful that her son was starting to get his life back together.

“It was good,” Gerard replied smiling a little at his mother, he had already been to two sessions with the therapist that Isla had recommended to him; he had been a little unsure to begin with but now he was glad that he had gone to speak with Ariana Fernandez.

Montserrat smiled, she was pleased that he was getting help and she hoped that her son would finally recover from what had happened; she didn’t want to watch him destroy his life.

“I’m sorry,” Gerard murmured looking at his mother, he hated that he had put his parents through so much and he had things that he needed to make up for.

Gerard was always going to think about Isabel but he needed to move on, he couldn’t spend the rest of his life moping around and going down this destructive path.

“It’s okay,” Montserrat dismissed with a smile, she had hoped that Gerard would come to his senses and she knew that losing Isabel had been a horrible shock for him.

Gerard shook his head, he had no idea how his parents had managed to put up with him for the past few months; he wished that he could have pulled himself together faster to prevent all of this.

“No it isn’t I’m going to do better, starting with forgetting the whole revenge thing,” Gerard replied shaking his head, he had talked a lot with Ariana about getting revenge on the woman that had taken Isabel’s life and only now did he realise that it wouldn’t make him feel better.

Montserrat watched her son, she was pleased that he was giving up on his search and with her investigation just getting approval it couldn’t have come at a better time; in a few months Isla would be found innocent and everything would be okay.

Montserrat knew that the cover-up at the hospital had gone deep and Isla wasn’t the first nurse to be fired for an incompetent doctor’s mistakes.

“I just wish that I had some answers,” Gerard murmured softly, he just wanted some clear answers about what had led to Isabel’s death; he didn’t want anyone else to suffer like he had.

Montserrat felt her heart ache knowing that right now it wasn’t something that she could give him without any evidence; she would be able to tell Gerard more when her investigation was complete and the real culprit was dealt with.

“I’ll see what I can do… I do know that there is a big investigation going on right now,” Montserrat revealed carefully, she didn’t want to get her son’s hopes up since it would take months for the truth to come out.

Gerard smiled, he was glad that there was an investigation going on since something had to be done; however right now he just wanted to focus on getting his life back together.

Hearing the front door downstairs open and close, Gerard smiled realising that it would be Isla back from her trip with Milan; he was doing his best to bond with the last thing that he had of Isabel and it wasn’t easy.

“We’re home,” Isla called coming up the stairs to the first floor, she balanced Milan on her hip and had a big smile on her face; the little boy had enjoyed the trip to the park and had been so excited to feed the ducks.

Gerard grinned watching as Isla stepped through the door, he honestly didn’t know what he would ever do without the brunette in his life.

“Hola,” Gerard cooed getting to his feet, he walked over to Isla and lifted Milan into his own arms; he fussed over the six month old and cuddled him knowing that he would never push his little boy away again.

Isla smiled watching the footballer with Milan, she had never thought for a moment that he would be like this with his son and she was pleased that Gerard was starting to bond with Milan.

“How was he?” Gerard asked softly turning to Isla, he smiled at the woman that had slowly helped him heal and he owed her so much for what she had done.

Gerard pressed a kiss to the top of Milan’s head, in the past couple of days he had done his best to spend time with his son; it was still painful but he was getting used to it.

“He was perfect as usual,” Isla replied setting her bag down on the counter, she brushed some hair from her face glad that Gerard was finally starting to get his life back.

This Gerard wasn’t like the one that had gone back to training, he looked a lot happier and Isla was sure that he would make a proper recovery this time; they just had to keep him from drinking for a little while since it wasn’t going to help him.

Montserrat sat quietly watching the exchange before her, her stomach twisting into a knot as she noticed the smile on her son’s face; it was a smile that she hadn’t seen since he had lost Isabel.

Gerard and Isla talked happily between one another, they were both smiling and Montserrat couldn’t help but wonder how she hadn’t seen this coming; they spent so much time together and they were pretty much living under the same roof.

Isla hummed to herself as she walked into her bedroom, she had enjoyed an afternoon with Gerard and Milan; she had kept an eye on the father and son while they bonded, she wanted to be on hand in case anything happened.

Closing her bedroom door for the evening, Isla set up the baby monitor before she moved to get her laptop; she brushed some hair from her face and settled down on her bed.

Isla sighed starting up the laptop so that she could check her email, she wasn’t really expecting anything but it was always handy to keep an eye out.

Isla put the laptop on her lap as she typed in her password so that she could log into her email account, she yawned a little tired since she had been up early that morning.

Milan had started to teeth and Isla doubted that she would be getting much sleep until the little boy’s teeth had come in; she clicked on her inbox and frowned when she saw several messages from an email address that she didn’t recognise.

Isla sighed wondering if she was getting spam email again, she moved to open the first email that had arrived from the email address; the address wasn’t one that gave away who was sending her the message.

“I know what you did, R,”

“I’m watching you, R,”

Isla felt sick reading each of the messages, she had no idea who R was but she had a feeling that it was someone related to her former work at the hospital; she took deep breathes trying to calm herself down.

There was only one secret that Isla was hiding and that was that she had been fired from the hospital after being accused of causing Isabel’s death; it was the only thing that Isla could think about.

Isla’s hands shook as she stared at the messages, she felt sick that someone could be doing this to her and she had no idea why she was being targeted; she hadn’t done anything wrong and now this was happening.

Isla couldn’t shake the feeling that this was only the beginning and whoever R was, they were only beginning their campaign of terror against her.
