The Shattered Pieces of my Heart

ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕡𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝟙𝟝

I watch as he walks. He looks perfect. Moonlight reflects off of his hair and his eyes seem to sparkle like the stars. His eyes search the courtyard until they land on me. I stay there frozen, unable to move as he walks to my bench and sits down. 

No, no, no, no NO!

"Gigi," Alex says turn his head to look at me. 

"Hi," I respond pushing my hands between my legs so he won't notice they are shaking. 

"Are you having fun?" He asks. 

"Huh?"

"At the dance..." 

"Ohhh, yeah. I guess," I say. My head is spinning in circles and I am freaking out.  Why is he here? Why is he asking me questions. WHY?

"I saw Sadie and Victoria dancing," He says. I turn to look at him. 

"I'm really happy for Sadie, I'm glad she found someone," He continues. I nod.

"Can you tell her I miss hanging out and that I'm sorry if we ever made her feel uncomfortable?" He asks. 

"Sure, but is that the only reason you are here?" I ask. He shakes his head. 

"I just wanted to hear it from you," he says quietly. 

My heart picks up speed.

"Hear what from me?" I respond. 

"I-" Whatever he is about to say get's swallowed by Kenzi's voice. She has come outside and is yelling at Alex.

"What are you doing out here Alex? You are supposed to be with me! Dancing with me! Perfect is our dance, it was our first dance," She cries. Her chest rises and falls beneath her pink dress. 

"Oh, Gigi didn't see you there," she add when she sees me. I smirk. 

"I think I should go," I say and stand up. 

"NO!" Alex grabs my arm and pulls me back down. "Sorry," he says under his breath but doesn't let go. I stay there paralyzed. I have always wanted Alex to touch me again but I had never imagined it to be like this. 

I watch Kenzi look at us and I see her face turn from annoyance to confused to hurt in just a matter of seconds.

"Alex! What are you doing here with HER?" The way Kenzi says it really stings. As if she doesn't care about me anymore. 

"Kenzi, babe. I was just talking to Gigi. What now, I can't talk to another girl without you getting jealous?" Alex starts to sound annoyed. 

"No, it's not that," Kenzi says. I frown. What is it then Kenzi? "It's because it's Gigi," 

WHAT!

"She has been in love with you for forever and now..." Kenzi trails off and I can't believe what she just said. I mean Alex knows I like him but it hurts for her to say that. 

No one says anything.

"Are you finally trying to steal Alex from me?" Kenzi says suddenly. 

"WHAT!" I get up from the bench. "What are you talking about, why would I do that?" I tell her.

"I dunno, I mean you love him so I figured..." She looks at her shoes. I'm starting to lose my patience. Is this girl serious?

"Kenzi, you were the one who stole him from me first," I say. "You knew I liked him, yet you still danced with him. You still became his girlfriend, you still left me and Victoria for him and now you think I would do that to you when I know just how much it hurts?" I'm mad now. Really, really mad. All the rage that I had bottled up inside comes pouring out. 

"I asked you Gigi, and you nodded you said I could dance with him?" Kenzi says confused.

"Omg, Of course I didn't I wasn't gonna make you reject him because I told you to. That was your decision. But you said yes, you were my friend  but you still said yes and YOU DIDN'T EVEN LIKE HIM!" I'm crying now. Big tears start to roll down my cheeks. I can't believe I am making a scene for the second time in just one week. Who knew that was me.

"Gigi, that is so not fair," Kenzi says trying to defend herself but I can tell that I hit her hard. 

"You know what, go be with your boyfriend. I don't give a shit anymore," I tell her. And maybe it's true maybe I don't care anymore. 

"Gigi, i'm really sorry," She says wiping her cheeks. I would forgive her but she is saying it six years too late. 

Avoiding everyones eyes I shrug then grab my stuff and start walking home.
