"What do you mean you don't know?" I gritted my teeth together.
"I went to bed, in my bedroom. Then, I wake up, not in my bedroom." He explained. My shoulder brushes with his as I move past him and down the ladder as he follows from behind. My eyes took in the room and saw nothing out of the ordinary.
"How did you end up in West's bed?" I wondered aloud.
"I don't know! But I would certainly love an expl-
"They know!" I exclaimed, looking back at a confused Jerrick.
"Who's they?" He spat all the while throwing his hands in the air. I scurried over to the desk and looked for anything helpful that West might've left behind for me. I was in luck when I found a letter wrote possibly just hours ago."They have finally showed up to greet me. All of them are wearing hoods to hide their faces. Some are women while others are men. They are parents of Tiltown and they have came to shut the truth away, me. Laurence, if you see this, go into the woods. Protect yourselves and your friends. The adults are the true enemy."
I showed the paper to Jerrick who read it rapidly. His eyes shifted to mine.
"We have to save him." I told him.
"Save him? No way." Jerrick disagrees as he throws the paper onto the desk.
"He's innocent! Who knows what they'll do to him?"
As Jerrick shakes his head, I attempt to hurry past him before getting pushed back, hitting my head on the brick wall. I lay with my head propped against the wall, moaning in pain.
Jerrick's eyes widened as he stepped back while Kat and James steps out from the dim bathroom. James crouches down in front of my face, cocking his head to the side.
"You'll be okay. A concussion at most, but nothing like death." He reassures me as my eyes began fluttering closed. Kat's face meets with my eyes.
She pouts, "Oh no. What has West done to your brain?" Soon enough however, I was met with a void.My eyes open slowly, watching the backs of Kat, Jerrick and James sitting at the edge of the mattress I was laying on.
"He's going to hate me." Jerrick whines as he holds his head low.
Kat rubs his back, "No. West has just brainwashed him. We're doing something good."
"Exactly. Besides, if he is mad with you, this was my plan. So, he can be angry with me." James speaks up. They began to turn back around to face me, so I immediately closed my eyes once again.
"I'm gonna go get some fresh air." Jerrick sighs as he gets up from the bed. As I hear his shoes clank against the ladder steps, Kat and James begin talking with one another.
"You're doing a good thing." Kat says.
James chuckles, "Yeah, I hope so. I'm just doing what I'm told by my parents." Parents? Like what West had wrote in his letter.
"I gotta go pee!" Kat exclaims as I hear her rush to the next room. James laughs before I hear him stand and walk over to sit again. I peeked my eye open and saw him reading at the desk. This is my chance. I mentally took a deep breath and prepare myself. I bolted up before nearly skipping every step on the ladder as James attempted grabbing ahold of my ankle. I aggressively kicked my leg back at him, hearing him grunt and stumble backwards.
"What's going on?" I hear Kat run out to assist James. I sprint out of the shed and into the woods, not looking back once. I continued sprinting until I became just another shadow in the dark woods.I held my watch up to my face to realize it was 9:47 at night. My mom is going to have a fit, is what I thought to myself at the time. My hands push myself up from the warm ground, before I feel a tap on the shoulder. I threw my arm up in defense, but was only met with Amber who looked to be as startled as I was.
"I'm s-sorry." She apologizes in a whisper.
"What're you doing here?" I whispered back.
"Look, I'm sorry for running off earlier. I'm just scared." Her voice broke near the end.
"Scared of what?" I questioned her.
She hugs herself, "Well, I don't even know if my husband is really my husband anymore."
"Well, you'll never know if you never try." I tell her.
"Then," She pauses momentarily before looking up at me, "I'm ready to find my husband and hopefully, my son."
"Scott?"
Her eyes widen, "Yes."
"Then, let's find them. Follow me." I order as she walks along my side through the pitch black of the woods. As we step over twigs, crunching them, I glance at Amber who was visibly shaking. I swiftly threw off my plaid shirt and gently put it around her shoulders.
"Thanks." She smiles weakly.
"Do you know what happened to you? I mean, you didn't even know you had been a missing person for years." I inquired.
"Right. The day I left Tiltown. Or, at least thought I had."Amber's POV, flashback
As I opened the front door, my face being greeted by the chilling winter air. West grabbed hold of my wrist tightly.
"West, please. You need to let go of me. Of us." I weakly said as my eyes watched his tears hit the floor.
"If you leave, I'll have nothing. We can find Scott together, please." He begged while veins began thickening in his neck.
I choked on tears that threatened to make an appearance on my face.
"I need to leave. I'm sorry. I love you." I say before twisting my wrist out from his grip and leaving the house. As I got into my car and drove off, my eyes couldn't help but watch him, standing in the doorway as he continued crying. I sighed heavily, wiping tears with my sleeve.Hours later, the sky became darker as snow came down thicker. Suddenly, a truck appeared behind me, honking frantically. I rolled my eyes at the rude stranger behind me, until I got bumped into from behind. Hitting my forehead on the steering wheel, I glance up again to see that I'm going straight into a tree.
