I stood there waiting for him, and finally he came crawling out of the shed. I waved my hand for him to hurry up but despite that, he kept tripping over snow with something in his hand.
"Run!"Jerrick said to me.
My eyebrows furrowed together, "What, no. I can't leave you here."
He huffed as his chest rose and lowered, "I'll be fine, you just have to go." He spat. I looked and saw police men wandering around the property which happened to be motivation for me to run for it. I sighed and started running through woods and twigs that stuck up in the snow. As I ran, I felt the cold and cruel air hit me back in the chest. My eyes watered, tears streaming down my face. My chest was filled with worry and fear, not only for myself but mainly for my best friend. My boots began holding me back from running faster as though they could be weights instead of winter boots. My pace slowing down, my heart still racing. I finally stopped, coughing until my stomach ached. Being brought to my knees for a rest, my head leaned against a tree. Without realizing, my eyes had closed.
Like I had just got caught taking a cookie out of a jar, my eyes shot open.
"Oh no, how long has it been?" I whispered aloud to myself. I stood up and start running back home as quickly as I possibly could. After what wasn't too long, I finally found the road and slowed down, having a breath of relief. My eyes darted towards the usually gloomy sky and noticed that an early sunrise was slowly appearing. Even though panicked ran throughout my body, I couldn't gain the energy to run home before my mother awakened so instead of running anymore, I walked. It was a dead street this early morning. Probably a good thing so people don't have to see me walking like a zombie. However, a car was heard coming up behind me. Too exhausted to care who it was, I continued walking until my curly haired friend and his brother came up to me and helped me into their car. Falling asleep in their backseat, I felt a warm blanket hovering over me before finally landing it's embrace onto my freezing body.
My eyes opened themselves up to Jerrick, James and Kat.
Jerrick's mom and dad came up behind them, "Your mother will be here shortly to pick you up Laurence." His father smiled, but I could see the concern in their eyes.
"I was walking home." I said, taking off my glasses and rubbing my burning eyes. Kat handed me a warm cup of hot chocolate and I gladly took big sips of it, feeling the warmth going down my throat and landing into my empty stomach.
"Well, after I got away from that incident at the asylum, I went to your house to check up on you but I noticed you weren't in your bedroom. So I begged James to help me find you." He explained quietly to me as to not let his parents hear about his troubled shenanigans.
"You came looking for me?" I croaked, taking more sips.
"Of course. You're my best friend."
"I told you guys that place is no good." Kat intruded.
James nodded, "I agree with the smart senior."
Jerrick nudged his brother, "Hey, I'm smart."
James shrugged at Jerrick.
"Thank you guys. I didn't know what was gonna happen to me." I forced a laugh but Jerrick brought me into his chest for a tight and warm hug.
"Hey man, nothing is gonna happen to you. Or us."
After talking for a good while, my mother was here to pick me up. We all stood at the door to say our goodbyes for the day.
"Goodbye Mr. and Mrs. Nelson." They smiled and waved me goodbye. I hugged James, said goodbye to Kat who still seemed a little off and hugged Jerrick tightly as he patted my back.
"I didn't mean for any of that to happen." He exchanged a sorrowful look.
"I'm okay, that's all that matters." I grinned and left his house.
As I got into the van, my mom sighed a breath of relief.
"I've been so worried. I'm glad you're okay. Jerrick is a wonderful young man." She said in her soft voice.
"Yeah." I quietly laughed to myself, shaking my head at the chaos that's happened in the past few days. Finding a ouija board in an old abandoned shed, the planchette flying to the corner of the room, a crazy man on the radio, and almost getting caught by the police and attempting to run back home in the dead of winter. I made a mental list in my mind of all the things.
My mother switched on the radio and low and behold, the same creepy guy comes on.
"Hello late, listeners of the night. Well, it's only barely afternoon but we're on nearly all the time so that doesn't really matter. What matters is if you have your coffee ready. Yes? Okay good." As I started becoming in tuned with the radio, My mother switches it off in trade for silence.
"Aw, why?" I questioned her as I groaned.
"That guy gives me the creeps. He's just another weird conspiracy theorist." She scrunches her face up in uneasiness. I couldn't blame her but my curiosity overcame me far too much for me to turn him away like that.
After having some hot soup and finding out that I now have a cold, I laid in my flannel pajamas and covered my body from neck to toes in my heavy blanket, immediately warming me up. I smiled with satisfaction as the warmth made me feel as though I had came to meet with the summer sun once again. However, my thoughts got interrupted by a soft knock on my bedroom door.
"Come in." I yelled. To my surprise, there stood a red headed Kat.
