Madeleine was in her bed chambers getting ready for the celebration when no other then her dearest friend Queen Mary had entered. Madeleine had always had a fondness for Mary, the woman who had showed her so much kindness and compassion when she first met Charles and came to court. She was always so willing to run around and play with them. She quickly got up bowing for her Queen. In return Mary had smiled at her, the young Queen had reminded Mary so much of herself. "Queen Mary, what do I owe the pleasure?" She spoke as if she was the young girl long ago. Mary just smiled as she spoke. "Oh please Madeleine it's just Mary. And I came to she how you were settling on and feeling. But I already know, you don't want to marry prince Henri, do you? Your heart has already been taken, by Charles." Madeleine just looked at her not knowing what to say. Was she that obvious to read, did her love for her Charles show so clearly to others? How, how did Mary know? Perhaps it was just a wild guess perhaps it was just a misunderstanding. "I...I don't know what you are talking about. Charles is just a childhood friend." She tried her best not to stammer but she had never been the best lier. She couldn't even lie to herself, nor did she want to. Her love for Charles had always been clear to her, she never wanted to know the love of a man if it wasn't him. But yet she had to, she had to keep reminding herself that Charles would never be hers and that she couldn't let anything ruin her Reign. She was a queen a queen in love with someone she could never have. Mary just looked at her seriously, choosing how she would say her next words carefully. She wanted what was best for the young queen. "Madeleine you and I both know that is not true. But you have to be careful. You are a Queen, a queen that men would love to ruin to take your god given birth right. You can not be put into any temptation with Charles. You can not even look at him with an ounce of love in your eyes. You are a queen that has no choice but to put your countries best interest above your own. Charles is a married man, no part of you can be with him. I don't say this to hurt you. I say this because I am your friend and I care. Be careful, you are a woman living in a mans world. One mistake could end you." With that Mary had left her room leaving her alone with her thoughts. Madeleine of course knew what Mary said was true. But some part of her couldn't help boy wonder, did he love her too? Was there ever a chance of them being happy together? Of course not, like Mary said she has to think of her country. This love of hers could be her downfall and she wouldn't let that happen. She would stay away from Charles, she would marry Prince Henri, go back to Ireland putting as much distance between her and Charles as she could. This love of here would be the death of hers for sure, because as much as she knew what she needed to do her heart couldn't handle the thought of it. She quickly got up, pushing all thoughts aside looking into the mirror. " I look like a queen, now if only I felt like one." She spoke softly to herself as she walked out her chambers heading to the celebration.
