It has been a year since the poisoning of the Irish Queen, a year since she lost her baby, a year since lady Amelie lost her life and a year since Charles has been himself. After everything that has happened, he was no longer the sweet boy he once used to be. He pushed everyone away, staying in his room and sneaking out late at night. Charles had gotten violent with Madeleine at times, pushing her closer to Henri. Things were hard now worse then before, Madeleine feared for the health of Charles and feared the man he became. But she refused to give up on him and that always lead to him throwing her violently out of the room. And yet she still kept going back because she loved him.
Henri had broken up with Madeleine a few hours ago, after she told him everything. She told him about the 6 month affair she had been having with Charles while they were engaged, she even told him about the baby she lost and was going to pass off as his. Here the once happy and in love boy, was now angry and filled with hate. The last words he said to her before walking out still rung in her mind. "Your affair will remain a secret, but whatever relationship we built off your lies and could of had is now over. The love I had for you is now gone." The hurt was evident in his voice and it hurt Madeline to know that she had broken a man so sweet as him. But she didn't want to marry him when she was keeping so much from him. And now she is left in France without a fiancé, so the only thing for her to do was head home to Ireland, or run off to England to be with her mother. And to be with her mother is what she choose.
She walked in silence as she made her way to her to her carriage, just as she arrived she felt arms turning her around and kissing her. Which she returned graciously, she knew those lips to well they belonged to her Charles. She looked up at him confused, but he didn't even respond to her confusion. He just kissed her again, and for a moment they just stayed in each other's arms. Before he was ripped away from her and Henri connecting his fist to Charles face. "Henri! Stop!" She shouted but he just punched him again. "Please stop!" She said wait tears in her eyes. Henri looked over at her full or remorse for a second then he dropped Charles walking away. Little did they know was Henri was watching their whole exchange and wasn't to happy about it.
She watched as he walked away quickly running to Charles side. "Charles are you okay?" worry was present in her voice. "I'm fine, my brother has a weak punch." He stated before wiping his nose. This earned a glare from Madeleine, she didn't find his words funny at all.
"Oh Cupcake, I'm okay really." He stated laying a hand on her face. In return she leaned her face closer to his hand laying her hand on his. "I'm sorry my love, I told him everything. It's my fault he hit you." She whispered looking down. "Everything?! What do you mean everything Madeleine? He could ruin you!!!" Worry and anger both present in his voice. Now it was her turn to calm him. "He won't, his love for me is the only thing to stop him from saying anything. And besides he has no proof, it would be his word against a queen." She stated before she leant down and kissed him.
"Come with me." She whispered in his ear. Charles melted at the words, the fact that she still wanted to be around him after he was so terrible to her relieved him. But also worried him that she was still so trustworthy of him as well. Charles was even scared of the darkness that had taken over him to at this point. He didn't want to risk hurting the woman he loves more then anything. He looked up at her with apologetic eyes. "I can't darling, I'm not myself." he stated ashamed. The last thing he wanted to do was disappoint her, but he couldn't risk hurting her. "Please my love, I can help you. I can! As long as you let me in and stop shutting me out. Please Charles! Please!" She pleaded with him. His distance and coldness towards her had hurt her and he knew it. Maybe she could help him, he thought. Maybe she was what he needed, maybe she was the one to help fix what others had broke.
And so he went with her, he went with the woman who could always make him smile and the one that loved him the way he loved her. Love can heal all wounds, why couldn't it work this time?
