A Blessing But A Curse

It had been weeks that Madeleine's and Charles affair had been going on. Weeks of secrecy but yet so much passion. Madeleine had been avoiding him for the past few days, she was pregnant and she was sure of it. But this child, this child created out of love could be her downfall. She had to marry Henri and she had to marry him fast, so that nobody suspected at thing. She hated herself for having to do this to protect herself and her child. Charles was a married man, he couldn't be with either of them. So he couldn't know, no he would never know that the baby Madeleine carries was his. She'd marry Henri tomorrow if she had too! Madeleine was interrupted from her thoughts by the very same person she had been avoiding and now there was no way of escaping him.
"Madeleine, you've been avoiding me." His voice was softly but yet confused. She sighed avoiding all eye contact with him. As much as this hurt her, she had to do it. " I have, because I was to much of a coward to tell you I can't do this anymore. I can't live in secret as your mistress. I am a Queen, a queen that needs a husband, a king. Not a married man! Not a man who I cannot show how much I love in front of people because he has a wife! It's over Prince Charles, I'm done." Her voice was strong but the tears that slide down her face and betrayed her. She had to be strong, no matter what. She couldn't go running back into his arms like everything would be okay, because it wouldn't. She's pregnant with his child and alone, all alone. She must marry, and marry fast before she starts to show.
Charles could barely say a word, he knew what Madeleine was saying was true but he didn't want to lose her. He tried to take a step forward towards her, but she took a step back. He looked at her sadly before speaking "If that's what you want your Majesty. Strictly business from now on." He looks down then back to her. "No more late nights of passion, no more sneaking around, no more secret I love you's. That's all I can give you but Henri, Henri can give you more. So marry him and he will cherish the ground you walk on, the way I can't. But don't you ever forget that I love you more then life it's self. And I would have done anything to be yours and to make you happy." These words had broke him it was evident in his voice, but he loved her enough to let her go. He gave her a little bow before he walked out.
Leaving Madeleine broken and alone. The only part she has left of him was their baby. One he would never be able to love and cherish with her. The thought broke her more then words ever could. But that was a fate she had to live with and she would because she is queen.
