She embraced the title of Beta Female.
Over the next few months, she melted into the position with natural tendencies and learned all the ins-and-outs of Aloysius and the Alliance Packs. She wasn't born to lead but she was meant to lend an ear when it was needed and offer advice when she had it. But most of all, she was there to support her mate. The Beta of Aloysius, Cassius, forever the green-eyed goofball.
They ended up doing their responsibilities together. Running patrols together, training the warriors together--of which she could start some of the young ones now--and filling out paperwork when need-be. On occasion, when Leroy and Cassius had to attend a meeting, she and Beth kept the pack running like true second-in-command females.
They had grown impossibly close as mother and daughter, just as she had grown close with Leo as her little brother. She loved to tease him and she even began some of his defense training early, sometimes tussling across the living room floor. Leroy only watched with the widest grin, love reflecting in those golden eyes, and she couldn't be happier. Of course, Andy was always welcome in the Alpha's House, and he was practically adopted, too.
Everything she had always dreamed of had come true.
And maybe even more than that.
She earned true respect from the pack and they looked up to her. It was something she was still growing used to because she had grown up just keeping her head down. Now, she carried her head held high and she walked with purpose because she didn't have anything to fear. Just like West had told her, she straightened her crown and led when she had to with a kind heart. She used her rationale to diffuse situations and she wasn't afraid to hold her ground or state her beliefs because she knew who she was and she was taking responsibility for it all.
Still, she found herself daydreaming most days. Yes, she felt obligated to her duties, but she still felt like there was something out in the world for her. She didn't want to live a moment in regret and she was torn over the idea that Cassius had suggested. They talked a lot at night, expressing their feelings and thoughts to each other. They were both a little off, in their own ways, but they figured staying at Aloysius was their true calling. They had family, they had responsibilities, they couldn't just abandon it all...right?
But then again, were they truly living?
Before they knew it, two months had flown by, and Beth's water broke in the middle of the night.
A few minutes after every light was on in the Alpha's house, they got a phone call. Deikota's water had broken, too, and now both females were going into labor. It was a crazy coincidence or maybe it was a dash of destiny, but at the break of dawn--they welcomed two little bundles of joy into their family. One at Aloysius and one at Harrow Pack.
Of course, when Deikota was well enough to travel, they would all get to meet Deikota and Jasper's newborn son, Cameron. They had stayed on the phone the entire delivery and everyone was crowded into one room to witness it all happening. Calvin was talking excitedly about all the things he and his little brother could do and Jasper was trying to quiet him. Deikota was making demands in the background and laughter bubbled up from everyone.
But, Beth and Leroy's daughter, was like an angel. A mix of both her parents. Her mother's blue eyes and her father's golden hair. She had come out of the womb kicking and fighting, her tiny little fists grasping around Leroy's thumb the moment he held her. It was truly precious as Beth sobbed and the first cry broke the beautiful silence of the dawn.
April Valerie Ferrell, that's what they named her.
She couldn't stop the tears that cascaded down her cheeks. They had named their daughter in honor of her and Reeve, using both their middle names. She couldn't think of anything more humbling. Leroy engulfed her in a hug and then handed April to her. She held her breath, looking down at this little newborn girl who would undoubtedly run the entire pack with her angelic face. She looked up at Leroy and smiled, he would raise his daughter wisely, just as his son, and her heart was crazy in her chest.
