Death raining from above. The sound of flames hissing from my blade. My teeth and wings rattling under the strain. I can sense it. I'm nearing the end of my strength. Another ten minutes and I doubt I'll be able to move anymore.
But that's okay. That's more than enough time to overcome this.
Mom. I hope you're watching. Because today's the day...humanity will win!
Samantha burst into laughter. "Humanity will win?! Ha! You sound just like gramps! When are you two gonna learn to stop sprouting poetic garbage all the time and face reality!"
So she can read minds too? No, just my thoughts. It'll be trouble if she can read my movements too. Just gotta clear my head and let my body move for me.
Three jagged spikes of rock close in from above. A flurry of bladed swipes flow from my sword. I zip past them in a speeding blur, as lines of white form on them and they burst into smoky pieces below.
Samantha grimaces. I dart through the air like the craftiest of mostiquitoes. Flying and twirling in tune with my surroundings. Soaring past everything with grace.
My wings flick away the smaller spikes. When the biggest one sails towards me like a missile!
I flip in the air and land on it. Running feet first as I crane my sword over my shoulder.
Flames of raging orange blaze at my blade's tip. Connected by swirling fiery trails gathering to form a bigger fire.
At the edge of the hurtling rock, I jump towards my sister. Drifting closer and closer.
Deondre lifts himself to sitting position. Holding his bloodied side with a twisted face.
"That idiot, a frontal attack won't work on someone like her." He sneers.
Sensing victory, Samantha stares me on with hands on her hips. Her lips peel and twist into a smile.
Hook...line...and sinker!
I swing at the air. A arc of flames shoots forth and trails towards her!
She pushes her arms out to her left. Blasting herself sideways and out of harm's way. Watching the flames slip past her and higher up.
Samantha whirls her head down at me. "Ha! Were you even trying to aim?! Why don't you...hold on a second..."
Her words trail off into uneasy slience. She catches on and swings her head up and over her shoulder.
Too late. My fire wave hits and the rocky slab above her explodes into a ball of fire and hurling debris. But that wasn't enough to put a dent in her ego. She looks back at me again. Grinning for about half a second, when I collide into her full speed!
We both sail backward. Me, having my arms wrapped around her waist. Her being hunched over and pounding away at my exposed back with hammering fists.
They slam down like weights. Each time making my ribs vibrate and ache even more. Blood pools in my mouth and trails down my lips. I was healing but taking damage too.
If this keeps up...
No time to finish the thought. We dive into the exploding sphere head on. Our world sizzles into one of wavering orange and yellow. The roar of flames and crackling flesh became as loud as thunder in our ears!
Layers of rippling flames coat our bodies. Eating and reducing our skin to charred red and bones. Turning our clothes into ashes that soon blow away from us.
