(Deondre)
I force my shaky legs to straighten. Hands on my knees, despite the burning pain on my side, I stand on my feet like a warrior. I command my heart and mind to stop shaking. My body soon follows and every muscle in me tightens.
Better to die standing than laying down like some third-rate coward.
Right...dad?
My hazy eyes stare down the one thing in my way to greatness. A pale demon with black horns, a voice laced with sadness, and had a mind far more twisted than any hell spawn I ever locked blades with.
Lord Ominga. The monster that took my father's life. Who brought the entire world to its knees and is bringing mankind on the edge of extinction. All while smirking from behind the veil of the shadows he lurks in. A monster through and through.
Even worse, he's being toying with us. Taunting us with pitiful words and powers unlike anything I've ever faced. To be brutally honest, in this fight against this beast of a demon, I've been pushing it, forcing it even. Going harder than I ever did in my ten years of fighting.
To think my father took on a universal threat like this...Mom too. Just how far behind am I to the top tiers in this world?! What the hell do I gotta do to break the ceiling into greatness like those two have?!
"Evil like you can't exist no longer." I mumble through a wincing expression.
The horned bastard turns his head sideways. Eyes dim with apathy.
"You take and you break people. You mold the hearts of those around you to do your sick, twisted bidding. You've slaughtered countless millions, no billions for over a thousand years! Mom used to tell stories of your wicked ways. So technically, I know you better than most and know how truly dangerous you are! To keep matters short, the universe would be better without scum like you!" I growl.
Lord Ominga twirls a thumb in his hole for an ear. His lips spread into a crooked smile tipped with fangs. "I'm sorry, did you say something just now?"
I swallow the urge to slice him a new one. He's just baiting me. Someone like me knows better than to fall for one of his emotional traps. My mom taught me about those too. I have to stay calm at all times, and keep my guard up even higher.
The image of a woman shows in the corner of my mind. Her skin the color of acorn, with black, dazzling hair, eyes made of gold, and a diamond on her forehead. Everything around her beaming as bright as the sun on a summer's eve.
"Deondre, if the dreaded day comes where you meet your father's killer, remember this. Fight with a cool head and a steady heart. Steer clear of the devil's tongue. If he speaks evil, you do not heed his words. And if push comes to shove..."
The memory of her glossy full lips slip into a wider smile. "Be the man that your father would be proud of and fend off such evil with all your might."
I poke my chest out and ball my fists. "Tell me, if you're the one who traded blows with my dad seventeen years old, I wanna know how could he have died to such a twisted monster like you?"
