One arrow. Two others stuck in its cross path. An all-powerful demon capable of destroying the world. The other, a red-haired teen trying to play hero. And lastly, the insignificant bloodied girl down below; observing it all through trembling eyes.
The arrow meets them about halfway. When it glows in a bright red light. Sending rays of red all over the room. I had to shield my eyes to block the burning rays.
Through the cracks in-between my fingers, Alexis gives out a smirk only I could see.
Lord Ominga shoots a puzzled, squinty-eyed glance towards the bright, incoming projectile. Watching, observing, the speeding object come undone. Shifting into a giant bird, made entirely of red and yellow flames. Wings like that of an angels. A long neck, stringy fiery eyes, a golden beak, and a red body tone.
But the demon never wavered.
Instead, he reveals a sinister smile. His teeth, like that of a canine's flashed before us.
Without uttering a single word, a flat black window blinks to form in front of him. One set with tentacles slithering from the edges. Eyes all over that were tinged in red and darting around hungrily. And mouths snapping open chaotically. With many gray tongues flickering about.
The unsightly portal makes me visibly flinch. Alexis whole face hardens. He was determined. And seeing that made me feel drawn to him even more.
In speedy blurs, the tentacles zip around the phoenix's neck, wings, and torso. With a squeeze, the bird gets entangled in a mass of tendrils. It's body severely warped and bent in all the wrong places.
"No." I gasp, cupping my mouth with my hand.
"It's not over yet." Alexis says, his jaw clenching. "No way in hell we came this far just to die here. Not like this!"
The tension behind his words didn't match. Deep down, he knows this might be the end for us. I feared it too. What can two amateur magicians do against a lord among demons? Especially one who doesn't even know how to use her own powers!
"Run." That single word came off as soft as a whisper. But the desperation rang loud and made my heart skip a beat.
I turn to Alexis. A bead of sweat trails down his face and I'm willing to bet it wasn't from the rising heat in the room.
"Get as far away as you can." He says, gritting his teeth.
I shake my head. "No way. Like you said we came too far. I'm seeing this through to the end!"
Alexis struggles with those words. Clenching his fists with a trembling figure. With a shaky exhale, his body loosens and I'm met with that same warm smile as always.
"Fine. Looks like you win." His eyes harden and he puts up a finger. "On the condition that instead of staying here, we both make a run for it. And-"
