Part 13: The FinalFest

The gun fires. FinalFest has begun.

Meggy and her Splatsquad ran forward and immediately began covering the area with paint, trying to cover the most ground in order to win. Douglas and Aliya were working together, spinning like a hurricane of death, spreading paint in all directions. Meggy led a charge with Mario towards the center of the arena, where there was a ton of open space to be covered. The two of them stood back-to-back, covering ground, while defending each other at the same time.
At one point, Mario saw Xavier and Fina come into view and he was able to hit one of them with his Gatling Gun.
Meggy hit the other one remaining shortly later.
They both looked over and saw Douglas battling Rigel and winning easily, knocking him out. He turned into a small squid and disappeared into the sky before reappearing at his spawn zone at the other end of the arena.

Mario: Damn. Didn't that hurt when you were still an Inkling?

Meggy: Kinda, but it only lasted a couple seconds. Now focus!

Mario: Right! Focusing!

They continued to cover ground and tried their best to ignore the taunts coming from the enemies as they came around them.
A splatter of light blue paint landed next to Meggy and she looked straight ahead to see Rigel and Fina staring towards her and Mario.

Rigel: I've waited weeks for this moment!

He jumped down from a crate and approached Meggy and Mario, his weapon outstretched.
Xavier appeared behind them and yanked their weapons from them.

Meggy: Hey! That's cheating!

Xavier: There are no rules in FinalFest.

Rigel took aim and was about to shoot towards Meggy until he was suddenly knocked down by a spray of orange paint from above. Fina was knocked down shortly later.
Meggy and Mario look up to see Aliya flying above, holding Douglas, who had been shooting down with her ink rifle.

Douglas: Yes! Get sniped! A double too!

He averts his attention towards Xavier as he started shooting upwards towards him and Douglas shot without thinking and saw that it hit him square in the face, knocking him over.

Douglas: Yes! No-Scope!

Callie: Triple-Kill! What a move by Splatsquad!

Marie: Things are looking intense for the first few minutes of the round! I'm hoping for an epic end!

Callie: Maybe we will see a change of scenery. Killer Ink has been the undisputed champion other than Reverb for the past three years.

Marie: That would be an interesting thing. Killer Ink losing its podium to the next generation of champions. It's like they will attract new fans.

Callie: And speaking of fans, the tickets have completely sold out! The stadium is packed today, and they are all here to see Splatsquad! "The team that conquered everything!"

Cheers arose from the crowd and Meggy looked around for just a moment to marvel the fans. She couldn't believe that they were all here cheering on her team. It warmed her heart to have these people who she didn't know cheering her on. It's like they knew she could win this.
She devised a plan in her head almost instantly to finish the game faster than the time remaining. She would allow Douglas and Aliya to continue their strategy of painting from above, and then her and Mario would continue to cover ground and stick together to take on Killer Ink and take them down for good.
Meggy ran and sprayed ink at anything that moved and Mario followed close behind, making sure he hit any spot Meggy might have missed. She jumped out of the way of a splatter of blue ink, but to her dismay, it hit Mario.
