—Two Years Ago—Meggy pounded on a glass wall that kept her entrapped in one place. She was desperate to escape, and tears trailed down her face. Her whole body wracked with pain from ink being forced out of her body. She was witnessing her friends fight a seemingly unstoppable force. A green lizard with Axol's InkWeaver pen called it: Sephiroth. It was not showing mercy as it attacked everyone in its wake. At one point, Tari pulled her infamous rubber duck, Archibald out and threw it at the Sephiroth and green lizard.
Meggy: *to self* What is that going to do against Francis? What is your plan, guys?
The rubber duck lands at their feet and they both look down at the duck with utter confusion across their faces.
Francis: What? What the hell is this?
???: Get over here!
A figure jumps from behind and snags Sephiroths robes; forcing it off its feet. Meggy's eyes go wide as she sees her friend Desti holding it above her head.
Desti: Batter up!
She throws it across the room and Axol jumps up into the air and round house kicks it towards Mario and SMG4, who end up making this fight a little fun and tossing it back and forth between them by kicking it. SMG4 then kicks it off towards Boopkins and Luigi. Boopkins swallows a large stone and Luigi picks him up and squeezes him, forcing pressure out of him and the rock flies through the air and slams into Sephiroth's head. It flies backwards until it slams against a wall, a crack being heard as it's back breaks in two. It fizzles out of existence as it dies.
The others start cheering and whooping at their victory. Meggy started to soften up a little and begins to laughing to herself at their victory. She turns her gaze to meet Desti's and smiles at her. She then turns away to see how the others were reacting and saw that Mario and SMG4 were of course dancing like freaks. Meggy giggled at how Mario tried to dance.
Meggy: *to self* Someone will teach you how to properly dance someday, Red.
Desti: Pfft. That was way too easy-
A splitting sound like metal pierces everyone's ears and Desti's eyes go wide as pain fills her abdomen. Meggy turns back slowly and her eyes also go wide when she sees what was before her: Desti was standing perfectly still, with a Sephiroth sword through her abdomen. Everyone was completely silent, except for Meggy, who was the first to react.
Meggy: Nooooo!!
The sword rips from Desti and she falls to her knees. Francis stood not far, laughing maniacally with a sketch of Sephiroth in his hand.
Francis: You Bakas. Did you forgot about me and this pen?
Desti looks to Meggy and speaks slowly, blood trailing down her lip to her chin.
Desti: You better win Splatfest for me, okay?
She falls forward and onto the ground, dead on impact.
Meggy: No! No no no!
She faces Francis.
Meggy: *angered* Francis! I swear on everything that you are going to pay for this!!
Meggy sat alone in her room as the vision of her past consumed her mind. She was happy that it was over, but still couldn't drop the fact that Desti was gone. She looks at herself in a mirror and imagines herself as an inkling again. She wanted to become one again so badly, but she was also starting to like being a human. Maybe it wasn't so bad? Even though she felt and now knew the pains and pleasures of a human, she could never replicate the abilities of an inkling again. Even if she tried. But that didn't matter anymore to her. What mattered, was finding a way to win Splatfest, and even more: Find herself for who she truly is. She smiled as she still watched herself in the mirror. It was time to fully embrace being a human. There was no turning it back, and she was okay with it. She was able to do things that she couldn't do in her past. She also thought it was a good trade-off for what she couldn't do anymore. Sure, it would lower her performance in tournaments, but it made her a better person overall.
