Meggy sat in silence as she stared at a wall. She could feel her heartbeat increasing with every passing second. She felt only sadness coursing through her system. The last ever Splatfest was coming, and she felt no motivation to train or do anything. Nothing could possibly make her do such a thing again. Her confidence in herself was at an all time low. She felt like she had failed her friends, failed herself, failed Desti. She felt a lump forming in her throat and pretty soon that lump in her throat turned to visible tears, streaking down her face. Seemingly within seconds, she was letting out long, quiet sobs. She couldn't compose or bring herself to move. She just sat on the ground, facing the pale blue walls and hugged her legs close to her chest. The sobs and tears continued on for what felt like forever, and she wanted to stop, but she couldn't. The guilt and fear of failure consumed her whole being. She looked forward for just a second as visions of Desti consumed her.Desti: You better win Splatfest for me, okay?
Meggy shook her head as she tried to rid the visions out of her mind, but the thought kept returning.
Desti: You better win splatfest for me, okay?
Meggy: *to self* Please...stop.
Desti: You better win, okay?
Through her blurry tear-vision, she could barely make out a shadow on the wall. Someone was coming up to her. She then felt something touch her shoulder. It wasn't a touch like a hand resting on her shoulder like normal, it was a touch of pure comfort. She turned her head to see Mario behind her and she tried to bring herself to stop crying, but that only made things worse. The only reason she knew it was him was because of the red hat and undershirt he always wore, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to tell who it was. Mario knelt down next to her and kept his gentle touch on her shoulder.
Mario: Meggy...I know things are tough right now, but we need to keep going. You know you can...I know you can.
Meggy: Why do I feel so...powerless to do anything? Just that one message threw my whole life off-balance.
Mario: What message?
Meggy turns to face Mario.
Meggy: The last ever Splatfest. I knew it was coming...but I didn't think that...It was so close already.
Sobs continued out of her and she could no longer speak. Mario reached out and wrapped his arm around her, hoping to give at least some comfort. She leaned into him and Mario sort of froze when she did.
Mario: *thoughts* This is actually happening...Was Trident right? Am I destined for a relationship with Meggy?
Meggy: ...I just wish Desti were still here...she'd probably say how much of a baby I'm being right now.
