"Sultana" I groaned rubbing my eyes a little before looking up at Malike who stood above my bed with an unreadable look on her face.
"Malike? What is it?" I asked confused sitting up still drowsy. I rubbed my eyes a little more to adjust to the now lit candles.
"Sultanim, Hatice Sultan's maid, Ayse, was found dead in the corridors," She said. At her words, all sleepiness left my eyes and I sat up straight. I pushed the covers off of me and moved to the edge of the bed.
"Ahmed and Suleiman?" I asked standing up and walking over to drink some water to clear my throat.
"They're asleep in their cribs" She reassured. I ordered her to bring me my dress. I walked over to the window and watched the sunrise for the first time in years as I waited for her to bring me my dress.
"Here you go Sultanim" She helped me change into my dress and put on some simple jewelry and tied my hair back. I looked up as the doors to my room were pushed open and a harem agha walked in.
"Sultanim, his majesty is asking for you in the private room," He said before bowing and leaving the room. I looked at Malike confused but she just shrugged her shoulders. I stood up and walked out of my room and down the harem where the girls were gossiping as usual.
I ignored them and continued walking down the harem and to the golden road. The guard immediately let me in. I walked into the room and bowed before looking up to see Mahmoud and Hatice sat on his bed with his arms around her to comfort her making my blood boil so I looked away not being able to see this.
"Your majesty, you asked for me?" I cleared my throat. He let her go and stood up stepping closer to me.
"Yes, you may have heard what happened this morning," He said holding his hands behind his back.
"Yes of course. I'm sorry for your loss Hatice Sultan, may she have a place amongst the angles" I gave her a fake sad smile. I seriously didn't care about her nor her maid. She gave me a tense nod with a glare on her face.
"Hatice is saying that it was you who did it," He said making me snap my gaze to him shocked that he would even hear that.
"Me? Why me? I don't have anything against the poor maid" I said trying to defend myself. I must keep calm, he was my Mahmoud but at the same time, he was Sultan Mahmoud Khan, and no matter how much he loves me that doesn't mean he will believe me if he had evidence, true or fake.
"That may be true but you hate me, you couldn't kill me so you killed her" Hatice shrieked standing up from the bed glaring at me as fresh tears left her eyes.
"I assure you, Sultana, I had no hand in what happened to Ayse Hatun, I would never kill anyone" I looked at Mahmoud pleadingly who seemed torn between us, believe the mother of his daughter or the mother of his sons.
"Your majesty, I swear on my children's lives I had nothing to do with any of this" I begged stepping closer to him but he held out a hand making me stop in my tracks and look at him with tear-filled eyes.
