Stand By Me: Second Verse
Chapter 9: Arms Wide Open
Late April 2014
Someone shoot me now. No really, because the way I am feeling is not fun. I was all set to go to Toronto with Tom and I got hit by a stomach virus that I think is trying to kill me. It is so bad that I had to kick my husband out of our house so I did not pass it to him. He was due to start filming Crimson Peak and I was not going to be the reason he would be delayed in getting there. Keeping my food down was near impossible. I felt like death and it sucked that I had to go through this alone, but it was my choice. I stayed in bed for the first few days with my only companion being our fuzzy son. As the fourth day went along and I still felt like death I started to worry. Tom was already in Toronto and his mom was also away. I was pretty much alone. Rising out of our bed like a freaking zombie I made my way down the stairs. Everything hurt and my head was spinning. God this sucks! I called the doctor, but they said to go to the hospital. Yeah thanks for that assholes, at least the doctors was within walking distance, the hospital was miles away and I still don't freaking drive. I sighed and felt my stomach roll again. I barely made it to the bathroom to dry heave.
Not trusting being able to talk on the phone I sent out a text to the one person I knew was still a round, well at least for now. Out of all Tom's friends I did not know him as well as I knew the others. Though I will have to say this. I knew who Ben was before I had ever seen Tom on film or otherwise. I dreaded texting him though, since I was sick as hell, but I didn't have much choice. While I waited for him to answer me I sent out a text to Luke so that Tom knew what was going on. My phone started to ring and I groaned.
“Hey babe.” Tom's voice made me feel a tiny bit better.
“You're still not better?”
“Nope.”
“Leigh.....”
“I sent a text to Ben to take me to the hospital. I'm weak, but not on death's door darling.”
“I'm coming home.”
“Tom!”
“No, filming can fucking wait. They can shoot the scenes that don't involve me until I get back.”
“Okay......” I didn't have the energy to fight him. I was so damn tired. The door bell rang and I jumped. I stayed on the phone with Tom and looked through the peep hole. Seeing who it was I relaxed and opened the door. “Ben is here. I will call you when I find out what is going on, okay?”
“Alright, give the the phone to Ben for a moment please.” I handed it over after putting it on speaker so Ben didn't have to catch my germs. I could hear them talking while I put on my sneakers. “How does she look?”
“Tired and pale.” I shot Ben an annoyed look, but he just smirked. “She's got enough energy to give me a killing look though.” I heard Tom give his unique laugh, but I could hear it was strained. He was worried and if I let myself think about it so was I. Thankfully for me, the nausea was enough to keep me busy.
“Watch her Ben, she is small, but she is mighty. Sick or not she'll fight like a bear.” I gave him a evil smirk even though my face hurt as much as everything else on my body.
“I'll call you when we find out what's going on with your little woman.”
“Thank you.”
“You're welcome.” They said their goodbyes and Ben handed me back my phone. “Ready?”
“Yeah.” I pulled my turtleneck up over my mouth and Ben gave me a amused look.
“What are you doing?”
