CHAPTER 37

"WHAT?! AMANDINE WAS HERE?" Gulat na tanong sa'kin ni kuya Amzi. I nodded. Tanghali na at bumisita dito si kuya para dalhin 'yung mga damit ko.

My conversation earlier with Amandine still ended up awkwardly even after the hugging part. Nang kumalma siya, umalis na siya na walang isang salitang sinabi. Gan'on din ako. Hinayaan ko lang siya na umalis. Well, even though we were awkward, at least I'm sure now that she doesn't hate me. That's fine for now, I guess.

"So, alam na niya?" Tanong niya ulit. I shook my head in response. "What? She's been here but she doesn't know yet? Why?" Pagtataka niya.

I sighed. "Well, I was about to tell her the truth but she stopped me." Kwento ko. "In the end, she said she was scared. She's scared to know the truth so I didn't tell her."

Kuya Amzi sighed and we fell silent.

"Wait..." Kuya Amzi muttered and turned to me. "How did she knew you were here?" He asked. It was my turn to sigh again. So they really didn't know. "Actually..." I started. "I'm not the reason why she's here." I stated.

"Huh?" He asked, confused. "Eh kung hindi ikaw, bakit siya nandito sa VIP ward?"

At that moment,

"Neighbor, we need to talk!" Iniluwa ng pinto ang isang lalaking nakasakay sa wheelchair. Napatingin kami ni kuya sa kaniya na parang hindi mapakaling makausap ako. "Huh? Ah, may bisita ka pala." Minami said when he realized I'm not the only person inside the room.

I rolled my eyes and turned to my brother. "That guy." I said and he turned to me, confused. "He's the reason why Amandine was here." I said.

"Him?" He asked and pointed a finger to Minami. "Why would she..?"

"Apparently, he's her boyfriend." I answered, arms crossed. Then he violently turned to Minami's direction. "WHAT?!" He asked.

Tinignan ko si Minami na parang walang muwang na siya ang pinag-uusapan namin. "...bakit gan'yan kayo nakatingin?" Takang tanong niya.

"Boyfriend ka ni Amandine?!" Tanong ni kuya Amzi kay Minami.

"...oo. Bakit?" Sagot nito.

Kuya Amzi sighed louder than earlier and wiped his face using his palms. "Kaya pala laging nakatitig sa cellphone, pambihirang batang 'yun." Bulong niya.

"Bakit mo ba tinatanong?" Kunot-noong sabi ni Minami.

Humarap ulit si kuya Amzi kay Minami sa inis. "Kuya niya ko, bakit?!" Nanghahamong sagot ni kuya na ikinagulat ni Minami.

Napailing na lang ako sa eksenang nasasaksihan ko ngayon. Hindi ko alam kung matatawa ba ko sa kanila o hindi. But it seems like, wala na kong panahon para problemahin 'yun.

I felt a familiar sharp pain as I was about so sigh at napakapit ako sa kama. It was the same pain I felt when I lost consciousness in my car.

Geez. And here I almost thought that my tumor spreading through my lungs was a lie since there wasn't any drastic change since then aside from the slight coughs. Now this happened.

I'm sure Grid said something about this, but I can't remember. I felt anxious from the sudden pain, and I started breathing heavier. It made the pain worse. I started panicking and didn't know what to do so I reached my hand to grab my brother's shirt.

Both turned to me, and the tension between them disappeared and was replaced with anxiety.

"Aleeza!" Tawag ni kuya sa'kin at hinawakan ako sa balikat. "What's wrong?!" He asked.
