False Comfort
Dedicated to:
"A--ATE..."
Aleeza has finally lost consciousness from exhaustion and Amandine was so lost. She just continued shaking her sister to wake up while crying like a little kid, until someone finally came to them. "Aleeza!" Amandine's crying abruptly stopped and turned to find the source of that voice. It was Farrah. As soon as she called her friend's name, she rushed onto their side to help. At the same time, she looked at the surrounding to asses what happened. Looking at the toilet, it seemed that she had vomited blood again. But this time must've been worse since she passed out from exhaustion.
"Ate Farrah..."
[What?!]
[Ok. Pupunta na ko d'yan.]
"Ah, may isa pa." Singit ni Farrah bago pa man matapos ang tawag.
[Ano? May kailangan ba kong dalhin d'yan?]
"Andito si Amandine." Sagot nito habang nakatingin sa tinutukoy niya.
[What?!]
"Anong nangyari?" Tanong nito.
"She passed out from exhaustion." Paliwanag ni Farrah. "'Wag ka munang mag-alala. Parating na din naman si sir Grid. Unahin mo muna 'yung bunso niyo." He sighed at sight, worried about his little sister. If she saw Aleeza in her actual worst state, it must've been very shocking for her.
He slowly pulled her up without saying anything. Amandine is still in shock but she unconsciously followed her brother's lead.
He took her out from the bathroom and escorted his sister to her room, leaving Farrah and Aleeza behind.
Not knowing what to do, he kneeled on the wooden floor, and stared at Amandine's face. His left hand is still holding his sister's trembling hands, while he reached out his right hand to wipe a tear from his sister's cheek.
Like finally waking up from a daydream, Amandine's gaze fell to her brother. Her sobs are slowly dying down and she finally had the strength to say something. "Bakit nagkakagan'on si ate?" She asked like a child.
Amzi stayed silent. Hindi niya alam ang isasagot sa kapatid. To be honest, he thought this scenario would end up without them saying a word to each other. Now his sister's blunt question caught him off-guard. "...okay lang siya." Ang tangi niya lang nasabi. He knows it's a nonsense answer because it was very obvious that Aleeza wasn't okay. Even Amandine furrowed her brows more than earlier.
"...she's gonna be fine, right?" Amandine uttered after a long silence. But Amzi stayed silent. He wished it was the case, but he knows it's not. And he didn't wanna get caught by lying again so he shut his mouth. "Kanina..." Nagsimulang magkuwento si Amandine. "...n'ong tatawagin ko sana si dad," she sobbed. "...pinigilan ako ni ate." Amzi didn't know where the conversation was going, but he continued to listen. "She told me that...she'll quietly disappear from my life and begged not to call for dad...!" He felt chills over his body and his sister started bursting out in tears again. "I think she overheard it when I said those words to ate Farrah earlier." She continued crying as she speaks. "I just said what I felt but I don't mean it!" She confessed.
Amzi unconsciously tightened his grip on his sister's hands. He felt a little anger inside him, though he didn't know what's the exact source. Maybe because of Amandine's thoughtless words, or maybe because of Aleeza, talking about he death so lightly, or maybe both. But either way, hindi niya pinagalitan ang bunsong kapatid. Instead, he pulled his sister towards him and gave her a hug. Patting her back was the best comfort he can give.
"I didn't really wanted her to disappear..." "I didn't mean it." Pag-uulit niya. She never thought that her careless words would be heard from the mouth of the person she was talking about. They both said the same thing but the way she said it and the way her sister said it was completely different. Aleeza was serious. Fear and anxiety ate Amandine. What if her sister really disappears one day? It doesn't matter how she would disappear. The matter was, can she handle it? If her sister disappears because what she had said, can she take responsibility? Farrah told her that Aleeza is trying. What if she stops trying because of her?
"Shh..." Amzi gently tried to calm her little sister down. "She'll be okay..." He whispered. But at this point, he doesn't know if he's saying this to comfort Amandine or to comfort his self.
"She'll be okay..." He said once again.
It was a false comfort, but had no other words to say.
