real life

three months later...

onyx stepped out of the car after her 8 hour drive home. the ground was covered with a thin white sheet of snow. she walked up to her house, ready to see her family after three months of being away at school.

pushing open the door, she was met with an empty house. she searched the kitchen before making her way up the stairs to the family room, where she was met with her brother and his best friend.

"charlie! what the hell are you doing here?"

"just thought i'd come spend thanksgiving with my favorite family," onyx raised an eyebrow at him. "my parents took a last minute trip to florida and my sister is in california with her boyfriend."

onyx was about to speak when they heard the front door open and close. they walked down the stairs thinking it was carolynn and their mother. rounding the corner, onyx was met face to face with a tall blonde boy. "danny! hi!" she ran into his open arms "i missed you so much!" charlie shifted uncomfortably, his heartbeat picking up.

"i missed you too." he pulled away, laying a kiss upon her lips. he looked over her shoulder to see charlie and jeremy still standing there.

"oh, sorry. danny, this is charlie. charlie this is danny." the two of them shook hands, kind of an awkward encounter.

"okay..." onyx walked in the other direction, pulling danny with her.

jeremy looked from charlie to onyx and back to charlie. "dude, you good?"

"fine, why?"

"are you into my sister or something?"

"might be."

"don't get involved with her. please. she might be my sister and i love her, but she's bad news when it comes to relationships."

"jer, i know. she told me. but i can't help it. she's amazing and beautiful and funny and i can't get her out of my head. ever since she came to canada, i don't know jeremy."

"she's got a boyfriend."

"i'm fully fully aware of that, but what am i supposed to do? i can't just drown my feelings away."

"i think we can arrange that. come with me," jeremy smirked at the boy. jeremy reached into the tallest cabinet, pulling out his parents bottle of jack daniels. he waved it in charlie's face, before grabbing two glasses.

the two of them drank half the bottle before stumbling into the living room where onyx and danny were still sitting. "what's uppp?" charlie raised his hands up.

"have you guys been drinking?" onyx queried.

"maybe a little," charlie sat down on the couch next to onyx.

"you reek of whiskey," onyx put her hand over her nose, trying to block out the smell. "it's seven o'clock. you guys are seriously drunk?"

"i'm sorry," jeremy slurred. "it was just so good."

"you know i don't like that, jer," onyx got up, walking away from the boys. danny followed her up the stairs to her room. they laid down on her bed, onyx feeling upset. she had quite the past with alcohol which jeremy knew all about. "he knows i hate when he drinks around me. and he still does it."

"it wasn't just him. charlie was drunk to."

"yeah but that's different."

danny sat up, "how is that any different?"

"he doesn't know-" she paused. "he doesn't know about my past. he doesn't know what alcohol did to me."

they laid there for another two hours before hearing a light knock on the door. "come in," onyx shouted.

it was jeremy. "can we talk?" onyx agreed asking danny to wait outside the room. he gave her a small peck on the lips before jumping off the bed and leaving the room. jeremy sat down next to onyx where danny was just laying. "i'm sorry."

"it's fine, jer."

"no, it's not. i knew about everything you went through in high school and i still drank. i know how much it hurts you. i am so so so sorry. like beyond sorry."

"i love you, jeremy. thank you for saying that," onyx sat up, leaning into her brother's side. he wrapped his arms around her neck, kissing her forehead.

"i love you too, onyx."
