real life

danny was distant the rest of the day after onyx twister her knee and ended up in the hospital. he barely said a word to her or the boys. back home, onyx was seated on the couch next to him. "what's wrong?" she asked.

"nothing," the tone in his voice was cold.

"danny, seriously, what's wrong?" he ignored her. "obviously there's something bothering you if you can't even look at me and talk to me."

he kept his eyes fixed on the tv. "you really want to know?"

"yeah. i do actually," onyx was growing annoyed.

"i don't want you being friends with charlie."

"excuse me?"

"i think you're too close to him and it makes me uncomfortable."

"do you seriously not trust me?"

"i don't know, onyx. should i have a reason not to?" he stood up, shouting.

"no," onyx's voice broke, tears forming in the ducts of her eyes. "i can't... i can't just cut him off. he's my friend, danny."

"it's either him or me."

"are you seriously making me choose right now?"

"what's it gonna be, onyx?"

"y-you," she mumbled. "you, danny. it will always be you."

he sat down on the couch in a huff, "why don't i believe you?"

onyx grabbed the crutches she was given by the hospital, "if you really don't believe me, why are we together?" she began to cry harder, starting to shout at her boyfriend, "you are the one that wanted to get back together in the first place. you are the one that gave me a second chance. you are the one that told me it's in the past." her voice went quiet, "clearly it's not in the past." she made her way up the stairs and into her bedroom.

laying down on her bed, she cried silently. she heard her door crack open, charlie's face being revealed.

"hey," he smiled at her. onyx sat up.

"what's up?" she tapped the seat next to her. charlie fully stepped into the bedroom, closing the door behind him.

"are you okay? that sounded pretty intense down there."

"fine. is he still here?" charlie nodded his head yes.

"i'm sorry."

"don't be. he's got ever right to not trust me."

charlie started, "maybe he does, but he told you from the beginning that he trusted you, didn't he?"

"yeah. i guess," onyx looked down at her hands, still shaking from her previous conversation with danny. they were silent for a moment before charlie spoke up.

"i need to tell you something."

onyx was hesitant, "okay. what is it?"

charlie took a deep breath, preparing for what he was about to tell her. "i- oh god. i like you, onyx. like a lot. and i know this is so selfish after the conversation i just heard, but i had to tell you because i can't watch you get yelled at like that. i can't watch him be an asshole to you. i just wish i'd been a little quick-" he was cut off by onyx's lips on his. he kissed her back, melting into her touch.

they were startled at a voice, "no reason not to trust you, huh?" danny left the room, jogging down the stairs.

"danny, wait," onyx shouted as she struggled to climb down the stairs.

"what do you want?" he yelled, tears streaming down his face. "you told- nevermind. i'm not doing this again."

"please, just talk to me."

"i already did this once three years ago. why would i want to do it again?"

onyx had tears pouring down her cheeks. "danny, i'm sorry." danny opened the front door, leaving the house. onyx winced as it slammed shut. he was gone. he was really gone.
