Ambience music: Far Away by Nickelback
Y/N's POV
In that moment, nothing mattered to me but him. Nothing made sense in my discordant and frantic thoughts but him. Nothing registered to me, not the worried calls from my friends, not the destruction littering my path, not anything else, but him.
Peter Parker.
I needed to see that he was okay. That he was alive and unharmed, at least relatively.
I run out of the Tower, glancing around to gain my bearings. The streets were deserted- everyone having taken shelter from the attack. In the distance, I see the Bridge, still standing proud. Without hesitation, I begin sprinting through the ruined streets, unable to tell if my legs or my heart is moving faster. Rounding endless corners, passing the occasional person, tripping on a few pieces of rubble and picking myself up again, I press on.
I ignored all the noises that desperately pried and pounded at the door of my thoughts, completely numb to the rest of the world. The only things I allowed myself to feel were the morningstar in my right hand, Peter's necklace in my left, and the occasional bits of debris beneath my tattered converse. My breath heavy and ragged, I willed my feet to fly across the ruined streets of London and to the Tower Bridge, where, deep down, I knew I'd find him.
I'd find him, I'd hold him close, I'd never let go.
Never again.
Finally having made it onto the bridge, I weave through the abandoned cars blocking my path. I can make out a figure limping towards me, clad in torn and singed spandex. The heartbreaking sight is enough to make my already racing heart beat 12 times faster than normal, even accounting for the intense burst of cardio.
"Y/N?"
"Peter," I breathe, running towards him, dropping the morningstar in the process.
"Y/N, oh my god," he hobbles towards me and we collapse into each other as soon as we're within reach. Because, now I know- no matter how hard I fall, he'll be there to catch me, just like I'll always be here to catch him. "You're safe? You're not hurt? And everyone else? They're okay?"
"Yeah," I nod into his shoulder, letting the tears run, knowing that any effort put towards holding them back would be a waste. "Everyone's okay, Pete. You did it, you did it Peter."
"That's nice," his grip on my waist tightens, and I feel a cool stickiness, one I can only assume is blood (although whose, I'm not sure), touch my skin as he buries his face into the crook of my neck, but I couldn't care less, because I finally had the love of my life in my arms. And he was safe. He has been so, so brave, and I'm so proud of him for all he's done and I could never ever ask him to give any of it up, but times like these, the calm between storms, are when I get to just enjoy being with him and love him like he deserves. Is it wrong to want to have moments like these for the rest of our lives?
"I love you, Peter," I finally tell him, although only a whisper, we both know it's a promise. A vow, vulnerable and delicate. Fragile like the girl who made it. And while fragile things are easily broken, they are also beautiful, tender, and pure. And when protected faithfully by the person it's been entrusted so carefully to, the promise is eternal.
"I love you, Peter," I pull back to look at him. "I love you, I love you, I-"
I don't finish my sentence, because well, I'm sure you already guessed.
With one hand gingerly cupping my cheek, and the other pressing firmly into my lower back, Peter kissed me. So gently, so cautiously, so scared to hurt me. He treated me like a china doll- scared to break me, but loving me all the same. His kiss was slow and tender, soft and sweet. It lacked the passion and hunger that our first kiss had borne, but this had something more. It wasn't too firm or too needy. It didn't demand, but rather asked. It was just a delicate melody, rather than a full symphony. It had room to grow, but was also just fine as it was.
"I love you, too, Sunshine," his whispered promise brushing my lips, mingling with the lingering taste of our kiss. Sealed with a new one, just as emotional as our first, just as tender as our last, and as perfect as can be.
Tada! I know it's short (my shortest yet), but I didn't want to add anything else to the chapter. Just pure, unadulterated fluff, and happiness, and everything you guys have been waiting for (hopefully).
Only one more chapter to go (😭😭), so let's do this!
Question of the Chapter (and probably the last one, since there's gonna be a long A/N at the end of the next one): What has been your favorite part or aspect of this series ("My (Super)Hero" and "Far From My Home")?
