THE THING ABOUT BEING ANTISOCIAL is that meeting new people was taxing; exhausting as hell and one could never figure out how to not to make a complete ass of themselves. You worry about saying the wrong thing and everyone thinks you are an idiot. You even sometimes think you are a colossal idiot, but that is neither here nor there. But the thing about Support Group is that everyone there is a basket case when it comes to communicating their sound mind and chooses to hide within themselves in one way or another. So at least if we are going to be fuckups, at least we'll be surrounded by equally fucked up people.
After recent events, it was taken on by Kosaku Midorikawa that Jurine had depression. After all, she was disinterested in any sort of activity and only left the house for school and grocery runs. Add those two incidents together, and it was clear that Jurine suffered from depression.
Thus, three times a week she went to Support Group in the basement of the local library with a group of ever changing cast of clinically depressed teenagers suffering from whatever they were unlucky enough to receive by getting the short end of life's shit stick.
Jurine wasn't actually depressed though. But after nearly dying two years ago, there were some things that just had to be done to appease the masses. Though Jurine would admit coming to said Support Group gave her a sense of clarity she couldn't find elsewhere.
It began the same as it always did.
The nine teenagers all sat in foldable chairs, some nibbling on sandwiches or cookies and drinks provided as Dr. Takao - a man who believed giving back what he was given during his own troublesome teen years - spoke with too much enthusiasm about how everyone could take the steps to better themselves.
After all, no one was below going above and beyond their past!
Someone please put me out of my misery. I'll give you my chin-- No, not the chinchilla. I'll give you anything else, but not the damn chinchilla.
They went through the same shtick as always: their name, age, their issue. When it got to Jurine, she'd recite the same thing: My name is Jurine. . .16 years old. . . Anorexia.
Two years ago, Jurine nearly died, and her whole world was scooped up and tossed in life's washer machine and set back out. She had fallen as far as anyone possibly could go, and she was still circling but at least she was in a better place now: surrounded by family that stuck by her through the worst of the worst.
After that, Dr. Takao asks if anyone had any stories on how their "journey" has grown or changed. A few would talk, but Jurine never did. She preferred to watch.
There was one girl who suffered from the same thing she did. Her name was Misaki, fourteen years old. She wore bigger clothes than usual, like Jurine did. Despite that, you could see the bones of her wrists jutting out, and she thought she heard the sound of her body as she moved. She never ate the snacks provided nor drank anything except the water. She came around every couple of weeks.
