ATSU ARRIVED AT at the boboa joint where Nikoru and a guy were waiting. Both had an order of boboa to themselves, a third sitting for him.

"Oh, don't mind if I do." He slid into the seat, scooping up the drink. "Sorry I'm a little late. My mom was having a fit this morning. Who's this?"

"Ikurou. He's on the paper with me and my other best friend."

Atsumu and Ikurou stared at each other in silence for a moment, though at least he thought they were. It was hard to tell with the dark green hair obscuring his eyes.

"Hi. . ." Ikurou said, giving a small wave. He was soft-spoken and timid, but if he could handle being around Nikrou he should be fine. Right?

"So, you mentioned you found something?"

Nikoru nodded, grabbing out a folder from her bag. Inside where multiple letters stacked on top of each other. Some had torn corners and little sketches across the pages. The handwriting was slightly messy, but Atsu could tell it was not too far off from how Jurine wrote now.

"Before I show you, both of you swear that you'll never tell her I've shown these. We have a promise to never show them, so if she catches wind, I'll bury you where no one will ever find your body."

Atsumu stilled. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Because I know you."

Atsumu crossed his fingers. "On my own safety, I won't tell her."

"Good. Now, while Jurine was in America, she and I kept pretty much constant contact as we could across an ocean and two countries." She picked up the top letter. "I brought some of hers that seemed fishy."

"Why were they fishy?" Ikurou asked.

"Because the tone changed. At first, she wrote about how she missed me and momma and dad. She hated the people and didn't have anyone to talk to. She was afraid that her. . . that her being there was a mistake. She was scared."

"I suppose you're not gonna tell us why she was there." Atsumu chewed on some boboa.

"No, because it's irrelevant," she replied curtly. "Ask again and I'll dump the boboa on your head." She held the letter like it was something precious, her eyes soft and worried. She gathered up some courage before handing it to Atsumu. "This was a letter I got about ten days in."

Niko <3

It's been ten days and I'm already regretting being here. I know it's for a good reason, but I think mommy and daddy made a mistake. It's too hard.

I don't know anyone here and no one knows Japanese so I don't have anyone to talk to. The room's too quiet and everything's so scary. It smells funny here too. The food is gross too and they can't cook rice. Can you believe it?
