IF THERE WAS A MOMENT that Atsumu Miya felt like trash personified, it was in the moment he saw Jurine sprawled out unconscious on the ground because his failed attempt at a serve hit her in the face. As he watched Nikoru run across the gym as fast as she could, the coach right behind her, Atsumu felt himself get chained to the spot. Chains wrapped around his ankles, snaking upward, and immobilized him. Horror filled him as the voices around him turned into background noise.
What the hell did I just do? Fuck, fuck, fuck! Atsumu felt his chest tighten to the point it felt like it was going to cave in; his heart beating out of control. He wanted to run to her, to see if she was okay, but the phantom chains prevented him from moving. And the fact he was afraid he'd just fuck up even worse.
Only when he saw her eyes flutter up did he feel like his heart was able to go back to normal. As she sat up, there was awkward fumbling as blood came from her nose and she took the towel wrapped ice pack from the coach, her eyes filled with immense pain.
There were several small cuts around her eyes and nose from where her glasses must've pierced her skin and Atsumu felt like shit. . . worse than shit.
Coach Kurosu instructed her to keep the ice on her nose as Niko helped her to her feet, but then leaned against Ren Omimi when he was told by the Coach to help her to the nurse. As he watched Jurine leave through the doors, and Niko starting to follow her, he ran after them. He ignored the voices of the coach, Osamu and whoever else it was, his feet having a mind of their own.
As he exited the gym doors, he felt something crunch underfoot. Looking down, he saw the glasses that Jurine had been wearing that must've fallen out of Niko's bag or something. As he picked them up, Atsumu ran a hand through his hair.
He looked at the glasses in his hand at a loss. One lens was shattered, with bits of glass missing entirely and the second was not far off from being just as bad. The bridge holding them together was on the smallest bit. One of the temples was not even there.
"Fuck!" he hissed, his voice echoing through the empty school grounds. His hands shook from the rage at himself. How could he have been so stupid to hit her? How the hell was he going to make up for this? It was one thing to mess with Jurine, but he hadn't actually hurt her before. And from the sound he heard when the ball hit her, there was a likely chance her nose was broken.
I'm sorry, Jurine. I'm so fucking sorry. . .
-----------
Jurine didn't appear at school the next day, nor the day after. Each time Atsumu checked for her in her homeroom, he felt his heart plummet when he saw her seat was vacant. Word got around thanks to the girls that witnessed what happened, everyone at Inarizaki knew that Atsumu was the one who hit her, and as he heard the gossip as to why spiraled out of control he felt himself feel worse and worse.
