Hours after her conversation with Lindsey, Stevie woke up in the middle of the night. What Lindsey had told her was still spinning in her head. It had hurt her that he had met someone, of course, but she believed him that nothing had happened and even if something had happened, she had no right to judge him.

No, it was not Lindsey's part that kept her awake that night. It was the part Sara had played in that story. It was the fact that her daughter had saved their relationship, had made both of them happy again.

Carefully, she freed herself out of Lindsey's embrace and left the dark bedroom.

It was Sunday and she knew Sara had to go to school the next morning but she couldn't resist and walked into her bedroom. Silently, she slipped under the blankets and cuddled up next to her.

Sara stirred as she felt the warm body of her mother touching hers. She opened her eyes and looked at her quizzically.

“What's wrong..?”, she mumbled sleepy.

“I love you, Sara.”

“Oh.. what's that for?”, she smiled.

“Lindsey told me what you've done... That you, well, that you called him and told him to go and fight for our relationship.. It's..”

“Mom, I'm just happy I could help.”

“No, Sara. What I have said to you before you left.. I think I've never really apologized for it. I screamed at you... I was horrible. I didn't mean it. I'm so sorry..”

“Mom, really, it's okay. I know you were in a dark place..”, she hugged Stevie and kissed her.

“Sara, you.. You cannot imagine what you did that night. I cannot thank you enough!”

“No need to thank me. I think either way you and Lindsey would have come back together. You just needed someone who told you to finally get up and do something about it.”

“Why did you do that? Call him?”

“Because you're my mother and I want you to be happy. And I've never seen you any happier than when you are with him.”

Stevie felt warm tears running down her cheeks and she was happy Sara couldn't see them in the darkness of her bedroom.

“I don't deserve you...”, she mumbled.

“Mom, of course you do! You deserve all the happiness in the world. You need to stop thinking that you're not worthy. You're a wonderful person and I love you. And there are thousands of people out there who adore you because you brought love and happiness into their lives.”

“I... I don't know what to say...”

“Just say I'm right.”, Sara laughed.

“You're right...”

“Thank you. Do you want to stay here or..?”

“Can I?”

“Of course. But you know I have to get up early, right?”

“I know.”

“Okay, fine. I'll be quiet and try not to wake you up, then.”

Sara snuggled closer into her mother's arms and Shadow who had slept at the end of the bed curled up next to them.

When Lindsey woke up the next morning and couldn't feel Stevie's body next to him, he panicked. Quickly, he opened his eyes and got out of bed. She wasn't in the bathroom or anywhere else and he felt his stomach clenching. She had reacted well to his confession the night before, far too well. What if she left again?
