Days later Scarlett went to meet Ada and Polly at Polly's old house. Ada hugged Scarlett as she walked in.
"I'm sorry I cut you out. I was just so upset—"
"Ada, don't apologize. I'm not mad, okay? I understand." Scarlett said as she pulled Ada into another hug.
Scarlett held Karl as they sat down and talked. Polly and Ada started arguing about Tommy and then Polly got quiet and looked down. She looked up slowly.
"My two children were taken from me, Ada. They came and took them away after church one day. I never knew where they ended up." Polly said as a few tears fell down her cheeks.
Ada and Scarlett were stunned as they looked at Polly.
"Tommy is strong and he's the reason this family is so strong and powerful. He would never let anyone take your baby, Ada." Polly added as she wiped her tears.
"He let them take Freddie." Ada said back.
"No. I don't believe he did that anymore...and there's something you need to know about Freddie." Polly said.
Ada looked at her aunt.
"They are breaking him out." Polly smirked.
Ada sat back with a smile on her face. She looked over at Scarlett.
"Really?" She asked.
"It was all Tommy's idea." Scarlett smiled.
Polly grabbed Ada's hand as they all sat there. Polly then cleared her throat and stood up.
"Tommy called a meeting and we need to head next door."
Scarlett handed baby Karl over to Ada and the three women walked over. Polly made Ada stay in the other room as the meeting was going on. Polly walked in and Ada stopped Scarlett before she entered.
"Polly told me everything."
Scarlett took a deep breath.
"Why didn't you tell me? I can be there for you." Ada said softly.
"Your life was just flipped upside down. You needed to worry about yourself and your beautiful baby." Scarlett smiled.
Ada squeezed her arm and smiled.
"We will talk later." Scarlett said and then walked in.
Tommy was standing at the front of the room and she could feel his eyes on her as she made her way in. She stood to the right of Polly as she leaned on the wall. Arthur and John saw her and they moved over to her. Arthur rolled his chair right in front of her and John walked up and hit her with his shoulder. He leaned on the wall beside her. Scarlett gave a small smile as she nudged him back. Polly looked over at the three and smiled. They always seemed to be happy around Scarlett. The friendship was pure. Tommy cleared his throat and started to talk.
"Today is the day. Today is black star day...the day we take Billy Kember down." He smirked.
All of the men cheered and Tommy went on telling the plan.
"The Lee's are already on their way to the races, which is where it's going down. We will be leaving around four to join them."
All the men nodded and Tommy was finally done talking. Polly spoke up.
"If you don't mind, I have someone I'd like you all to meet." She said as she walked to the door.
She opened it and Ada walked in, holding Karl. Arthur stood up from his chair and held Karl. He put his hat on him and held him up for everyone to see.
"He looks just like me. A true Shelby." He joked as everyone laughed.
Ada was talking to Tommy as everyone watched the baby.
"Is it true?" She questioned.
He nodded and then she hugged him.
"You're forgiven." She laughed.
Everyone followed the Shelby men to the Garrison to have a drink before the war. Grace was helping Tommy serve the drinks when Scarlett overheard them.
"I'll make sure you're at the next family meeting." He said to Grace.
She couldn't look at him and then pulled him into the private room. Scarlett walked to sit with Arthur, John, and Esme, who just got there. They were talking until Finn ran through the doors yelling.
"Billy Kember and his men are on their way here." He screamed.
Everyone stood up and then Tommy came out of the room. Scarlett saw Grace with tears in her eyes.
"What?" Tommy said loudly.
Finn repeated himself and then Tommy walked out. The Shelby brothers and Scarlett followed. He walked into Polly's old house. Her and Ada were sitting there and they could tell something was wrong.
"What is it, Tom?" Polly asked.
"Kember is on his way here with his men. Someone let it slip." He said sternly.
"Well who else did you tell about today?" Poll asked.
Everyone in the room knew, but there was one other person. Tommy hit his fists on the table and turned away from everyone.
"You told the barmaid didn't you?" Polly hissed.
"Yes, and now all of the Lee's are halfway to the races by now and we are out numbered." He yelled.
He looked at John and Arthur.
"Go get the machine guns from Danny's grave and then gather up all the peaky blinders that you can find." Tommy said.
The two men ran out the door. Polly, Ada, Tommy, and Scarlett were left as they tried to plan something out. They tried to think of every scenario they could, but nothing. They were just simply out numbered.
"At least we will have machine guns and they won't." Ada said trying to be hopeful.
Just then Arthur and John busted through the door with this look on their faces.
"Well..what is it? Where are the guns?" Tommy asked.
John shook his head.
"They're gone, Tommy." John said.
Tommy shook his head in disbelief.
"This whole time, she was listening to everything." He said quietly.
"Why would she want the guns though?" Arthur asked.
"She's working with Campbell. Campbell mentioned something to me early this morning when I ran into him about how my heart would be broken at the end of the day." Tommy said quietly.
Scarlett scoffed and turned around from everyone.
"So she's responsible for Scarlett getting beaten, Freddie being taken to prison, and now Billy Kember coming to attack us." Polly said.
Tommy had this blank look on his face and he didn't say anything. Scarlett turned around.
"Is she still in the pub?" She asked as she started to walk towards the door, but Polly stopped her.
"Let me go, Poll. Let's see how she can sing with her vocal cords ripped out." She said as she broke free from Polly but Tommy stopped her.
"You're still defending her. After all of this." She laughed.
Polly put her hand on Scarlett's shoulder and looked her in the eyes.
"I'll take care of Grace. You're needed here." She said and the walked out.

Polly walked into the Garrison and saw Grace. Polly walked closer to her as she pulled out her hat pin. Grace pulled a gun and pointed it at Polly.
"I'm an agent of the crown and I'm not afraid to use force to move you." Grace hissed.
"So it is true." Polly smirked as she put her pin back in her hair.
Polly walked closer to Grace.
"Rich girls don't pull triggers". Polly said.
Grace put the gun on the bar and rolled up her sleeves.
"Alright we will do this hand to hand and I'll show you how rich girls fight." Grace smirked.
Polly laughed and turned around.
"I'm not fighting you. You'll get enough of that from someone else. Tommy may forgive and accept you, but I never will."
Polly got in Grace's face.
"She was suspicious of you since the first night she met you. You better pray the next time we see your face that I get to you before she does." She hissed and then walked out.

"Ada, go and hide." Tommy ordered.
She picked up Karl and walked out. He looked at his brothers and Scarlett. He told them the plan and then relayed it to the other peaky blinders. Tommy, John, Arthur, and Scarlett walked down the street as about ten more Peaky Blinders filed in behind them. They stopped as they saw Bill Kember and his army standing. He looked over at Scarlett and smirked.
"It's a shame such a beautiful face will die in these streets today." Kember mocked.
"Can you bend down and pick something up before we begin?" He laughed.
Scarlett shot at his feet to give him a warning.
All of his men laughed.
"You'll have to shoot a little straighter than that, love." Kember said with a smile.
He turned around to his men as the all laughed. Scarlett pointed her gun and looked at Tommy and the Shelby brothers as she pulled the trigger. She shot the man next to Billy Kember right in the forehead. They all silenced as they turned to look at her.
"Straight enough?." She hissed.
Kember and his men pulled out their guns just as the rest of the Blinders did.
"You can't win. We have you out numbered." He yelled.
"But we have you outgunned." Tommy said as Freddie and Danny Whizz-bang walked out.
Freddie was holding the one machine gun Tommy kept.
"Sergeant Throne reporting for duty, sir." He said.
Just then Ada pushed through the crowd of men with Karl in a stroller. She pushed the stroller and stood in between the men.
"Ada what the hell are you doing? Get out of the way." Freddie said.
"Shut up, Freddie." She yelled.
"I heard this was no mans land. You were all in France, so you know what happens next. I have brothers and a husband here. You all have someone to go home to. I'm wearing black in preparation." She said as she looked at everyone.
"Look at me, I want you all to look at me. We'll be wearing black for you. I want you to think of them. Think of your people at home and fight if you want to, but that baby isn't moving and neither am I." She said as she crossed her arms.
"She's right you know. Why should all you die. It should be just the two who caused it." He said as he shot Tommy in the shoulder.
Ada pushed the stroller and ran out of the way. Danny jumped in front of Tommy and Scarlett and Kember shot him. He fell to the ground as he bled. Kember pointed his gun at Scarlett, but Tommy shot him in the head before he could pull it.
"Kember and I fought this battle one-on-one. It's over. Go home to your families." Tommy yelled.
The men dispersed and the Peaky Blinders picked up Danny. Scarlett looked at Tommy's bleeding shoulder.
"Come on we have to get the bullet out." She said.
Tommy sat down on the table in the private room of the Garrison. Arthur got Tommy's shirt off and passed him the whiskey. He took a sip.
"Hold him." Scarlett yelled at John and Arthur.
She dug into his skin to find the bullet. Tommy groaned in pain. She finally pulled the bullet out and dropped it in a glass of water. She poured whiskey over the wound and Tommy groaned again. She quickly stitched him up and stepped back.
"You're all done. It's over now, Mr. Shelby." She said.
Arthur and John have a weird look after she called him that. Tommy sat up and put his shirt on and then they all walked out into the main room to see everyone in there. Everyone got a drink and lifted it.
"To Danny Whizz-bang. May we all die twice." Tommy said.
"Danny." Everyone said and then drank.
They all started to drink and celebrate. Scarlett was standing at the end of the bar talking to Ada and Freddie as she held Karl.
"They said you shot a man in the head without looking?" Freddie asked as he raised his eyebrows as Ada did the same
"I told Mr. Shelby I was a good shot." Scarlett said.
Ada and Freddie both laughed. She noticed Tommy a few feet from her, talking to Grace. She shot Polly a look and Polly shook her head telling her not to do anything. She could hear their whole conversation as if Grace was doing it on purpose.
"You're hurt, Tom." Grace said.
"I'm fine."
She shook her head and looked at him.
"Someday you'll throw that gun in the cut."
He shook his head. She took a deep breath.
"Well here it comes, Tommy. I love you." She said.
Scarlett swallowed hard.
"And there it goes, Grace. Away it goes. You can say it as much as you like, but it doesn't change what you did." Tommy said back.
"I'll be in London one week at this address. You should join me. I have an idea about New York." She said as she handed him a piece of paper.
He didn't say anything and she left. Tommy looked over at Scarlett smiling and laughing as she held Karl. He walked to the middle of the bar and started to make an announcement.
"It's official. While Kember and his men were here fighting us, the Lee family took all of the booking and money. The Shelby's are now the third largest legal racetrack operation in the country." He announced as everyone cheered.
He came up and put his arms around Arthur and John.
"Only the Sabini's and the Solomon's are bigger than us, boys." He smiled.
Everyone drank and celebrated for a while. Scarlett was tired and ready to go home. She walked out the door to see Tommy smoking. He looked up at her.
"You killed a man today." He said quietly.
"Wasn't the first man I killed and it won't be the last." She said as she walked away.
Tommy walked to office after the partying died down and wrote a letter to Grace.
Dear Grace,
Without a secretary now, I write my own letters. I learned a long time ago to hate my enemies, but I never thought I would be this torn about one. The idea of New York is interesting, but I've worked so hard for this day and now it's finally come. I have responsibilities here, people to protect, people that I love. I am stuck between two things..maybe two people. Perhaps I'll flip a coin and it'll tell me what to do. Polly told me you fell in love for real and she is never wrong. You will my decision in three days.
